Size Matters: Semi Does Donuts!
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
Most of the time, when I see a semi, my first instinct is to get the hell away from it. I’ve heard plenty of stories about bikers being injured by flying treads and been buffeted by their “jet-wash” enough times to view these freeway behemoths as my natural enemies. The lone exception? During the tropical downpours in Florida—they happen like clockwork every summer afternoon—following the lights of big trucks was the only way I was able to keep pace in otherwise blinding rain. But hey, even T-Rexes had to frolic every once in a while. Check out this sweet clip of a Mercedes rig turning donuts.
ASI F430 Exists…
By Ben Schaffer
The Real JDM
Here’s an ASI F430 spotting. This is not yet the official introduction, but already the ASI F430 parts are looking really nice! I need a better angle on that rear wing, it looks awkward right now but I know its just the angle of the picture. That rear bumper looks sexy and the front bumper looks surprisingly OEM. More pics after the jump, including a comparison between the ASI bumper and the factory bumper.

1932 Ford Coupe From Sweden
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
I was pretty blown away by this thing when it first turned up in the pages of Hot Rod a few months back. This ’32 Ford was built by Tomas Svenningson in Sweden as an AWD track car powered by a turbo Volvo inline-5. Crazy, huh? Well, it finally made it to HotRod.com, so those of you without a subscription to the mag can finally check it out.

BMW X6 xDrive35i vs. Infiniti FX50 AWD: Which Would You Choose?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
This week it’s the battle of the yuppie crossovers! The Bimmer’s 3.0 liter turbo inline-6 puts out 300 hp while the Infiniti’s 5.0 liter V8 puts out 390 hp. Both vehicles run in the high $50k range. Which would you choose?
Xcessive Raceway For Sale
By Ron Honig
WaytooFurious
I found Katherine’s recent story about the Daytona being sold by the IRS really interesting. As a result I spent most of my lunch searching the IRS website for “bargains.” I think I finally hit pay-dirt when I came across the Xcessive Raceway. This former drag strip, which is located in Texas, is coming up for auction. How fantastic would it be to own your own drag strip? Unfortunately it looks like it needs a lot of work. Check out all the details here.

GM May Leave Detroit?
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
According to new General Motors CEO Fritz Henderson, it’s a distinct possibility that the company could leave Detroit as all options to save the massive company are being looked at. It seems that bankruptcy is a guarantee at this point and once this mess hits the courts, look out.
GM leaving Detroit may not be as big a deal as it once would have been as the company has been “leaving” Detroit for over 20 years as it has gradually degraded to the precarious point it sits in now.
Just to prove that this is not a hoax, here’s a link to the story laying it out.

The Heb Rod
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
When I was at the Fontana Bug-In earlier this month, I was walking around the car show when I spotted this gleaming roadster spread amongst the classic VW’s on display. The car looked familiar, but I couldn’t quite remember where I’d seen it before. After bit of thinking, I recalled that Rod posted a photo of this car during his May editorial. I spent some time checking out the car at Bug-In, but it wasn’t until I got home and did a bit of research that I found out just how notable this car is. Unlike most of the “big name” builds out there, the car had a very low profile presence at the Bug-In. There were no signs detailing the build , and I didn’t even see the owner during the several times I passed by it. Dubbed the “Heb Rod”, this 1957 Beetle is one of the only VW’s to be properly recognized as the real deal by the traditional hot rodding community. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Suddenly, Nearly Everybody’s Opposed to Cash For Clunkers. Will Congress Pay Attention?
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
It seems like the tide of public opinion on cash for clunkers has turned heartily to the negative in recent days. That is, outside of vapid local TV news programs, which all seem to be running boilerplate stories that barely address the real effects of cash for clunkers.
First, we have USA Today calling c4c a lemon, though they haven’t yet grasped a few of the finer details.
As stimulus, cash-for-clunkers means lemons for taxpayers. It would borrow billions of dollars to benefit a single industry and a particular class of consumers who decided years ago to buy fuel-inefficient vehicles.
For most “clunker” drivers, it’s not as though they had wads of cash and were able to choose from a wide range of fuel-efficient, safe, modern cars. Instead, limited budgets meant they had to select an older, possibly fuel-inefficient vehicle. Or they simply didn’t care much for the new cars on the market today. And as we’ve said several times before, though these people are targeted by this bill, they are not the types of people who will want to or even be able to take on a new car loan and payment schedule. Continue reading at Hemmings
