Are You Into Imports or Domestics?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

When I first joined CarDomain three years ago, everyone told me it was a tuner site. Well, for a tuner site, there sure were a lot of full-sized trucks, Jeeps, Mustangs, Camaros, Mopars, etc. So when we started the blog a few months later, I tried to include a healthy amount of domestic content. And honestly, that’s what people seemed to respond to the most. So are the import folks here just quiet or what? Or have I scared them away? I like imports and domestics, but if I have to chose, I’ll always pick domestic. How about you? Oh, and I decided not to include an option for “both.” Take a stand, people!

CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot: the Ford SVT F-150 Lightning

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Welcome to the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, a regular feature which aims to expand the notion of what a muscle car is, and to see if a truck can fit the definition of muscle car. Previous trucks featured in this series include the Dodge Warlock and Lil Red Express and the Chevy Silverado 454 SS, so I thought it was time to feature a set of trucks for all of you Ford guys. Let’s take a look at both generations of the Ford SVT F-150 Lightning.

Taxi Ruins Maser Owner's Day Downtown

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

My buddy Tom was out for lunch yesterday when he spotted this seriously pissed-off Maserati owner downtown. It’s not clear exactly what happened, but we do know that the other vehicle was a taxi cab—which was moved clear of the intersection before Tom could snap a picture—and that repairing the Italian Stallion is not going to be cheap. Obviously, it’s sucks that this Gransport got bashed up, but I can’t see any reason the owner shouldn’t get it the hell out of the intersection. Sure, it’s a fancy Italian sports car, I get that. But it’s not like fancy Italian sports cars block  intersections less efficiently than say, clapped out Camrys. Maybe he wants the cops to investigate the scene so he can sue the pants off the Taxi company? Your guess is as good as mine. Two more pics after the jump.

Cougar Engine Teardown Begins

By Brett Powers

audiobahnv8sho

I decided the best time to begin the Cougar engine teardown was during a family get-together since my brother-in-law is also into this sort of thing. When I got the Cougar I also got an ’86 Cougar GS with a 5.0 EFI engine, which I promptly decided would be a perfect engine to build up for this project. My main goal was 250-300 horsepower at the flywheel. This is certainly possible using mostly factory parts. I will be combing junkyards and Craigslist for cast Ford parts to achieve my goal. Most of the guys I have spoken to who build up my sort of car usually convert their normal 5.0 to 5.0 HO motors and call it good, but I want more horsepower than your typical Fox chassis Mustang. I want my car to be able to run with 05-09 Mustangs and mid 90s Cobras. This is going to be an interesting build indeed. What do you think, am I shooting for a silly goal or am I building a street car that can hold its own?

M6 Cabrio Re-Landscapes Grattan

By Katherine Helmetag

Holy yard work, Batman! This dude came out of turn 12 too hot and went sideways up the left side of the valley. He got the car straightened out before hitting the Armco and brought it down safely onto the track surface. There were chunks of grass everywhere on this V10-powered M6, including in the back (white leather) seats. Thanks to marowy over at 3Balls for the action pics. More pics of the car after the jump.

Gumball 3000 Hits the Track!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Since the drivers on the Gumball exert so much effort trying to go incredibly fast without winding up in jail, it must be nice for them to get to stretch their legs someplace where there’s no such thing as a speed limit. In this clip, the cars hit Palm Beach International Raceway for some track time, and unfortunately, not all of them survive unscathed. The accident happened off-camera, but from the looks of the black Aston Martin, I’d say someone came into a corner a little too hot and traded a bit of paint with the wall. Damn, it’s hard to see a car that pretty all bashed up. Anyway, make sure to look for the driver of the R34 pull some sweet drifts at around 1:44.

Primered Hornet Wagon on 22's, with Truck Nutz

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

The big-wheel look seems right at home on this AMC body style–the Hornet’s later and burlier cousin, the Eagle, was 4WD after all. Though the Nutz and the knock-off 22′s would make more sense on an Eagle wagon, the combo somehow works on this rear-drive Hornet Sportabout as well. More pics after the jump, via Jalopnik.

Track Weekend: Grattan and Gingerman

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

My Mother’s Day weekend was just about perfect! I spent it at the track(s) with my sons, running the wagon into the corners. Saturday was at Grattan Raceway with 3BallsRacing (when two just won’t do), and Sunday was at GingerMan Raceway with Michigan Volkswagen Enthusiasts. The two tracks are very different—Grattan favors small, light cars on the back turns and high horsepower on the long front straight, while GingerMan is a more forgiving course where almost any car can turn a good lap. Grattan is a very technical track that is not forgiving dry and even less so wet. The morning rain led to more cars off track than at any other event I’ve attended. The sun was out on Sunday, and the dry conditions combined with GingerMan’s wide runoffs meant a lot less yard work.
