GSXR-Powered VW Polo

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

Can you handle four minutes of a GSXR-powered rear-drive VW Polo shredding it’s little tires into oblivion? Find out by watching this video clip. I tried to find some more video of this crazy little VW on the open road, but apparently its primary purpose is spinning donuts.

Playboy Pink Mustang Found?

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

One of the members at the Hemmings Forum, Emjay Binge, recently pulled his pink Mustang out of storage and quizzed us whether it’s a real Playboy Pink Mustang. For those of you who can answer his question, he included the door tag information in his post on the Hemmings forum.

Laurel Hill Tunnel

By Ben Schaffer

The Real JDM

While enclosed wind tunnels have been around since 1871, there are many problems that arise from trying to test a car in a wind tunnel. The only way to truly solve all these problems would be to physically move the car over an actual driving surface in a place where the air is perfectly still and controlled. A place like an actual tunnel with sealed ends. A place like the Laurel Hill Tunnel. Continue reading after the jump!

Dawn's Scion tC

By Austin Knight

Gotadime

If you’ve spent even a small amount of time on CarDomain, you’ve most likely crossed paths with Dawn’s Scion tCat some point. Her matte black, murdered-out tC has been attracting a lot of attention around here lately and she’s already won Showoff of the Week, surpassed the 100,000 views mark and received nearly 8,500 comments from interested CarDomain members. Why has her car gotten this attention? Well, she didn’t drop six figures on it and it hasn’t been in any magazines, like some popular cars on here. Nope, it’s just because her tC is a cool car driven by a cool girl that’s very in tune with the automotive ccommunity. She’s a very nice person who knows what she’s talking about when it comes to cars, and as we’ve found in the last couple months, that’s more than enough to win over the heart of the CarDomain ccommunity. Dawn always has stuff planned for her beautiful tC and she’s even looking at getting a new, better paint job (as if it could get any better), so make sure that you stop by and check it out. Trust me, it will be hard to resist adding this perfect combo to your favorites.

One Sick Wheelie Machine!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Riding a wheelie on a sport bike is one thing. Hell, half the trouble with piloting those machines is keeping both wheels on the ground! But once you add a second of set shoes to the equation, wheelies become a lot more difficult. OK, drag cars do it all the time, but they have wheelie bars to—literally—fall back on, and this wicked off-road buggy doesn’t have that luxury. To keep his front end up, the bad-ass behind the wheel has to keep things almost vertical, which is probably pretty tricky, given the terrain he’s navigating.

Maybe I’ve just always driven old original paint junk, but I don’t get the whole fear of rock chips thing.

Chip Tuning on My Wagon

By Katherine Helmetag

Performance engine management chip companies brag about dyno results and buyers brag about butt dyno results. I put my Wetterauer tuning chip to the test at Grattan Raceway, which has a 1/2 mile straight to play with. The chip takes my boost limit from the stock 7psi to 15 psi. The factory electronic boost controller is very spike sensitive, so last summer I installed a manual boost controller in parallel with the electronic one to damp spikes. This has significantly reduced the amount of time I spend in “boost limp,” held back to stock boost. The electronic limiter didn’t kick in until my last session at Grattan a few weeks ago, the results were impressive. On full boost, I was able to hit 108mph. I admit I chickened out and backed off, but I could have easily gone over 110. On stock boost, my top speed in the straight was about 92mph. That’s a 20% increase in top speed due to the chip tuning, repeatably tested on the track. I like those numbers a lot better than arcane dyno math! Thanks to 00photo.com for the pic.

Can of Angry Bees

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

After two Hondas that dropped downpipes every three years like clockwork, I’ve been wondering when the exhaust on my 9YO wagon would finally let go. Well, the time has come. That’s the hole in the completely separated flex joint on my downpipe. I’ve ordered a new Techtonics Tuning 2.5″ model to replace it with. The TT piece comes with a reducer to fit the stock 2.25″ exhaust, which I will hang onto until it finally bites the dust (not soon enough). Until the new unit arrives, my poor car sounds like every other unmuffled four-banger out there – crappily, hilariously buzzy and LOUD. My friend Cory says it sounds like a can of angry bees.
