I think that beauty is in the eye of the beholder….the owner obviously digs his car like this….I respect him for standing his ground when undoubtedly, everyone in his family tried to convince him to take it all off…..but he didn’t. Bravo, Sir. Bravo.

pmallday, my grandfather drives a fully loaded 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe with the 3.3 litre V6, all wheel drive, leather interior, anything it came with, it has. He paid over 30 grand cash for it, with less than a hundred miles on it. It may not look like this Camry, but it sure as hell looks better, not to mention could probably kick its ass in a race.

I can’t wait to see all the hard work and cool things on Alex’s car as soon as he gets them done. Or maybe he’s more proud of his cars the way they are than the old timer is with his nut in either event the big question is who will be the next car he picks to post on CarDomain for everyone to ridicule and make fun of. We should all be so proud.

So what if it has more mods? I’m trying to get mine street legal before I do anything to it… And it needs a bit of work. All it needs now is a new master cylinder, new gas, the engine cleaned up (mainly sweeping off the cobwebs), and two new tires. It has mods done to it already, that have been on it since the late sixties, like custom rear fenders (yes, I do mean fenders and not quarter panels), old Chevrolet rims and various other bits of stuff done.

My Grandparents had a Motorhome outfitted with all that cheezy stuff

it used to be the way to mod your car on the cheap and have it be functional…..

Wow, for some reason, I actually really like this (minus the side port things below). I like the head light treatment, and then it looks like a Mercedes in the rear with the chrome on the tail lights and under the bumper. OK, yeah, take off the trim between the bumpers and the fenders, and maybe on the edges of the door, but this is the best job I’ve seen with the chrome stuff.

Alex, I appreciate your honesty and lack of excuses. My only thought is that we should try to be part of a blog that caters to everyone with interest to the automotive world. As contributors I feel it paramount that we set a good example. It’s akin to someone telling their children they shouldn’t smoke, while they are having a smoke. From what you tell us about the owner of the car I can appreciate how bad you wanted to say something but sometimes we learn it’s just not worth it. It’s like someone telling their wife that her ass looks big. It’s just not worth the consequences. I look forward to more of your post.

Respectfully, I can understand and even respect you being upset that someone started trashing your car but the old saying “Two wrongs don’t make a right” seems to apply. More importantly when you write for a magazine or blog “you” can help set a standard. At a time when it appeared that Rob was trying hard to rid the blog of those who lurk only to make fun of others along comes one of his writers who makes a post that basically says, “It’s ok to “put down or trash” someone’s car on CarDomain.” I believe your post as a writer sets a bad example to it’s readers of what CarDomain is trying to accomplish. We all know there will be cars that some will not like but everyone should feel safe knowing CarDomain is a place where their car will not be ridiculed especially by the writers.

Let me defend my post: My father has known this guy for years, and worked for him at one point. From what I hear, the guy makes a complete ass of himself, not with his car, but with his attitude. I saw him the day I took these photos, and the second he saw me and the Saturn, he started trashing my car. All is far in love and war, in which case, this is war. Had he not been such a prick, I probably would have been a little nicer. I’ve seen the car around for quite some time, and he sneers at me like I’m a bottom feedinf cretin because I don’t drive a “man’s car”.

Pff, like a Camry is a man’s car. He could have spent all the money he put into the car and the rice and bought the Camry’s Lexus counterpart.

Just my two cents;

I can agree that everyone is entitled to his or her opinion but I take exception to one of the writers of an auto blog, (this one or any other one) whose key function in life-on-the-Intranet is to create a place where anyone interested in sharing their vehicle can congregate, that would publicly pick out someone’s ride and lambaste them the way this one has been done. While it’s not unexpected for posters to get in their jabs as is too often done here, it’s very unbecoming of a CarDomain writer to do so.

The question is, how long before someone here does it to your ride? It won’t be long before they start making fun of the kids who ride the short bus.

He’s 80. He probably longs for what auto makers have denied us for years… some chrome. I betcha if it was a classic car he wouldn’t have trimmed it up like that.

Besides, it’s a Camry for God’s sake. It’s the vehicular equivalent to Tofu. Sure, the adornments are circa beaterz.com but he’s not gonna live much longer and still has an interest in cars, maybe even a little appreciation for what youth are doing with (to?) their rides.
