Hot Rod Power Tour: Always Have Plan A, B, C, D and E Ready

By Ryan Brutt

Well let’s just say the past few weeks haven’t gone quite as planned. The original plan was to take my new 2009 Challenger R/T Classic on the Power Tour. Unfortunately, Chrysler filed for bankruptcy the day my car was to be finished, and delayed me receiving the vehicle for a few months. I decided to concentrate on my 1971 Dodge Challenger for the Tour, but that didn’t work out either. I discovered some damage to the front end. I knew when going through the damage that it would take a bit of work to get straightened out. So out came the Caprice for its second Power Tour.

The Caprice isn’t a hot rod in the typical sense, but I’ve upgraded and modified the car. It will move with the other cars in the pack, just like last year. The old girl has a V8, cop car suspension, a/c, overdrive and plenty of truck space to carry anything I need or my friends. It is the perfect cruising car.

My best friend Mike was going to do the Tour with me, but stuff came up for him at work, so he is no longer traveling with me. I’ll be doing the Tour solo this year.

Last year I had an incredible time, even after a few issues. I expect that this year will be even better then the last. I’ll  try to post daily updates up until the Tour, so stay tuned.

I would rather own that Caprice than 10 new Challengers…..

I remember that caprice..last year. Liked the colors, still do :) and the caprice was the cop car designed to carch everything…I knew of a family friend that made it a goal to find sedan cop cars. good reasons.

Most folks only have a plan A, and maybe a B at most.
-
The tranny quit in my Grand Prix recently. With a limited budget from already catching up on expenses I weighed the options. A, bite the bullet and take the car to a shop for $1500. B, bide my time relying only on my Firebird until I snag a used tranny with the hope of saving cash. C, find a GTP parts car or GTP engine/tranny/ECU for an upgrade opportunity – again relying on the Firebird in the interim. D, find a dangerously cheap alternative ride to take the pressure off, giving me time to find my best option to deal with the Grand Prix’s issues. or E, stop making car payments on the Prix (not an option under consideration, but an option nonetheless).
-
We have 3 kids, so the entire family can’t pile into the Firebird which is my daily driver/mod/show car.
-
It’s looking like option D is gonna happen. I’m checking out a 95 Mercury Marquis owned by a friend who just bought a new Camry. The car has been maintained well, even has new tires. Just needs to have a stretch of steel brake line replaced. The price? Probably less than I’ll sell it for once the Grand Prix is back on the road… even after repair costs.
-
In the meantime I’ll be taking advantage of the Prix’s isolation in my driveway. The moment you stop planning is when you start making mistakes…

hell the caprice is way cooler than any old new challenger!!!
you should have enough time to quick build and through in a 383 stroker!!! great sleeper then!!!
