Galpin Auto Sports Builds Two Cars for the U.S. Air Force
By Rob Einaudi

Your tax dollars at work! The U.S. Air Force recently commissioned Galpin Auto Sports to build two military aircraft-inspired rides to help with their recruiting efforts. See more pics of the Challenger “Vapor” and the Mustang “X-1″ after the jump! Via Jalopnik

First off, friends, the amount of cash that went into these cars (I’d estimate around $200K, tops) isn’t even a blip on the radar of the Air Force’s 2009 budget for recruitment and retention: $628 million. In fact, these cars were built for less than the cost of a single 30-second commercial on national TV. Since most of your hopefuls of recruiting age are of that age group (or younger) that love fast things, these commissioned vehicles will do what they’re designed to do; draw attention to the Air Force. I think they’re both cool as hell.
And I’d rather see something like this for the money than to know that a quarter of a mil of bailout money went into the pocket of some banker that couldn’t keep their business running.
BTW, anybody notice that the Challenger has controls for both pilot and co-pilot?

two ugly-ass cars that are just a waste of taxpayers money aren’t going to make me enlist in the program that thought building these cars was a good idea.

I want to know:
1. Why they don’t have seatbelts?(I thought we were a Click it or ticket country)
2. How in the Sam Hell do you steer the Mustang?
3. With our country in such dire need of economic stimulus and the government in such a deficit…how much of MY TAX DOLLARS went into these cars?
I feel the last one is in most need of being answered by my joke of a governor…..since Galpin Auto is in Los Angeles, and my governor says we are helping the economy….Impeach Ahnold!!!!!

I Love both the Mustang and the Challenger. But why would they give the Mustang Awesome looking rims and give the Challenger rims that look’s like they had no more money to put into the ride so that they just bought those rims from a junkyard????

i like the challenger A LOT better, the msutang still looks to stock on the outside but they both have bad ass interiors, the challenger though just looks like someone coudl cut it off in traffic then you see a gatling gun or rockets come out of the hood and blow up the car in front of it and the holes in the rear bumper looks like its flamethrowers for the tail gaters, haha i love it
