Farm Fresh: Grain Truck Becomes Unexpected Hot Rod
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
Over the weekend, I took in the Rumblers sixth annual Rumble in the Country down in Terryville, Connecticut, both because I needed to restock on hot rod profiles for Hemmings Motor News and because I’d always heard good things about the show, but never been. I did find a couple rods to profile, but seeing this Chevrolet pickup truck made the whole trip worthwhile. The giant two-ton-truck wheels (single in back instead of dual) tucked up into the wheelwells, along with the modest chop, give the truck a huge Tonka toy look, while the dechromed body and flat off-white/white paint scheme appeal to the less-is-more aesthetic. nice. there is something familiar about this..did you say connecticut? I met a similar project when I was 10, over 25 years ago, a tow truck with similar colors, also a farm truck at the time hacked into a tow truck,(frame cut, and had dual wheels!) with a 283. The first vehicle I ever drove.manual steering. there was a problem with road legalities, but the unusual workings to get it as far is it did, led to something else like this I am sure…and I doubt that cab is widened BTW. nice truck. ingenuity beyond a stupid fat straight six I hope.
