I use my infrared sensor plugged into camera to catch lightning shots while driving through the storms with camera forced tight on the dash.
The shots prove the strike is not just from above but from below as well. This baffled me for years till recently confirmed.

I see this is the Canon 40D with the same lens I use on the older 30D.
The 17 – 55 f2.8 IS, works perfect for this body. I also use 1DsMkII.
ISO 200, at 1/40 worked out well here.

It’s not the friendliest of situations as a storm chaser myself.

I don;t get this. any car would look good with that press a button hdr nikon. The you tube vids lately of the tornadoes in action. wow. someobody dropped the prices of cameras, the quality coming from yelping weirdos in the storm is amazing. Could you move the sube, there is a nice dark cloud there…I wonder what that femnnist plastic does with undertoes and sidewinds and barometric pressure gradients changing atmospheric pressures under the hood. Don’t ask me where I got the subconscious question from…

What’s really bad is when you get all ready for this shot and then it’s spoiled by the tornado that just swept your car into the next county. Then you can take a picture of it upside down in the living room of a double-wide.

Awww man, if this didn’t come less than a week after we had some super awesome storm clouds roll in and I thought to take pics of my car with it just like these… but I didn’t, shucks.
