Awesome Opel GT 4×4 on eBay

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

This is funny, cause last week I sent this pic to Katherine, who is determined to buy an Opel GT in the near future. This star-spangled Opel GT has a 1985 CJ7 Jeep frame and a 1978 CJ5 Jeep drivetrain. More pics and details at eBay. Via Jalopnik

bad choice of car but cool idea and as far as dgaf88 sayin its a waste of two cars just think of it this way say you have a car with bad rusted chassis and a truck with a good frame but bad body so what do you do ? make somethin good outta both

i like it but he should have move the rear axle back a couple of inches to line up with the opel wheel well, but other than that i like this car.. truck… thing, and the fact that its street legal and passes inspection is awesome

LedZeppelin – why you assume the guys that did the camaro i described were half assed? you never saw the camaro and you never saw it in action like i did, ya it was done at the house in the backyard im sure but that doesn’t mean it was done half assed, im not getting mad just don’t assume when you haven’t seen it ya know

I think this thing looks cool….Sure, its not something I’d do. But still. Very nice work. Ya’ll remember the jacked Beatle? Black with an astounding amount of work, and thousands in the paint alone? Hi as a CK PU…Sweet Texas Bug as I remember. The thing is, Its an automotive bit of art to do this right like this Opel, and the Bug. Tore up units such as the proposed Camaro mentioned by the SouthernGuy down below can only be the work of half assed shade tree Mechs.
As far as this being a waste, No I don’t think so. There is no idea what the drive train or chassis looked like on the Opel, nor the body of the Jeep. We are too quick to judge based on our own preceptions of what *Was* before the result…of What *Is*

I give the guy credit where its due. I like. I remember growing up there was a guy a few blocks from me, he had an old 82 firdbird jacked up, but his idea was a car body on a double frame with 35s i think. it looked like crap but to each his own right?

see this is the thing, i respect the work it takes to put a car body on a truck/suv frame, and i think SOME cars don’t look abd at all like that but maybe thats my redneck in me lol, BUT you have to pick the right car, some cars look alright like that but some sure as hell don’t, and well this car don’t, but at least this guy did the whole project and not just the main work and left the interior fucked up like some people do, also what some people don’t realize is that with a car body on a truck/suv frame you can lift them more and still be legal beacuse of the headlights being lower to the ground on a car, there was a guy that put a 70 camaro on a blazer frame, probably a K5 blazer im sure, and he had either a 350 or a 383 stroker in it with 38s (38 inch tall tires) on it, it was bad ass but i haven’t seen it around, it couldn’t get stuck and if it did a tractor would have to pull it out because there’s no truck around here that could do more than that camaro in the mud, i’ve seen him pull out trucks in 2wd while in thick ass mud

It looks like the owner took the time and did it right which I applaud, but I think the whole car on a 4×4 chassis is a waste of 2 good vehicles.
