Power Tour 2009: Day Five, Dayton
By Ryan Brutt
HemiPwr70
The past few days, I normally get up a little later then everyone else. Today though I was getting up early so I could meet the MoPower Tour for breakfast and then head out with them.
Everything was going to plan, I was out the door and driving at 8:30 am. The meeting was set for 9:00 am, so I assumed that I could get there in plenty of time, sit down and wait for the group, that was the plan.
I get to where the restaurant was suppose to be, and there was nothing there. Just an empty lot. I thought maybe I had gone to the wrong address, nope it was correct. It was the damnedest thing.
There was a Krispy Kreme donut place across the street, going over there, I talk to the people who work there, and they had never heard of the place. I decided to just skip the meeting, grab some dough nuts and head out. Ironically there was a 88 Caprice Classic Brougham LS in the parking lot, so I snapped a picture of the two.

4-4-2 Adds Up To Fine-Handling Muscle
By Sam Barer
Sound Classics
When it comes to popularity, muscle cars are still as hot as Las Vegas pavement in August. Despite the economy, Detroit muscle from the sixties and early seventies are the dominate vehicles at shows, tours and auctions.
The credit for the birth of the muscle car segment generally goes to the 1964 Pontiac Tempest GTO. The same year, however, the Oldsmobile division of General Motors released its F-85 Cutlass hardtops, coupes and convertibles with the 4-4-2 performance package. Like the GTO, the 4-4-2 rode on the 115 inch wheelbase platform and offered a 330ci V8 engine delivering 310hp—just 15hp less than the GTO’s standard 389ci.

Footage From the goldRush Starting Line!
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
Despite the presence of some of the fastest machines on the planet—an LP640, 430 Scuderia, and Gallardo Superleggera—there were reportedly no arrests on this year’s goldRush. One of the only “incidents” involved police pulling over the a slew of rally cars because the gaggle of sexy sheet metal was causing other drivers to become distracted, and the officers just asked them to spread out. From what we’ve heard, the only accident was a fender bender due to a driver attempting to pilot his Aston Martin through gridlock while texting his girlfriend. Nice work, buddy! Look out for the gold LM002 and enjoy the clip.

Wrangler With a Twin-Turbo Viper Motor!
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
Talk about insane! This Jeep is pushing 716HP at the wheels, which seems like more than enough to make it turn back flips. There isn’t any detail on the actual install in the clips StreetFire member badwrangler has posted, and the German site referenced doesn’t work. But from what I can see in this video, it looks like all the transplant work is uber-clean. Now, I don’t want to sound like a heretic, but it seems like a twin-turbo Viper motor could provide a little too much power for this platform. I mean, seriously, isn’t this like attaching a rocket engine to a toaster? Watch the way the tires smoke up on the first run, and don’t miss this clip of a launch from 90KM/H.
Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT vs. Ford Fusion Sport AWD: Which Would You Choose?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
So you want a sporty AWD sedan for less than $30K? Two good options are the Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT and the Ford Fusion Sport AWD. The Subaru’s 2.5 liter turbo four banger puts out 243 hp while the Ford’s 3.5 liter V6 puts out 263 hp. The Subaru weighs 3,428 pounds while the Ford weighs 3,803 pounds. The Subaru is available with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic. The Ford is only available with a 6-speed automatic. Which would you choose?
Whitworth Collection to be Auctioned Off: Dozens of Incredible Cars on the Docket
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
This is the big one, quite literally the auction to end all auctions. Jungle Jim’s real Nova Funny Car, several of Ohio George’s race cars, a couple of real General Lees, the 1965 Dodge Deora concept, it’s mind boggling and we have not yet scratched the surface.
This is the Ralph Whitworth collection. A massive and mind numbing collection of cars that was slated to appear at a museum Whitworth was going to build in Nevada. The man established his fortune as an “activist” investor, buying large chunks of companies and getting involved in their operations.
Since we all know where the stock market has gone, it seems to have taken a large portion of Whitworth’s, well, worth with it. The museum must be shelved if they arer liquidating this level of inventory. We honesly can’t even begin to tell you what’s on the manifest to be sold, but the dozens of high resolution photos available to see at the link below will tell the story.
The auction will be held at the Peterson Museum on Sept 28th. If you can actually attend it, you better, or we’ll question your gearheaded-ness. It’s that wild. Hell, the “million dollar Chevelle” formerly raced by Ray Allen is on the block, we’re guessing that it’s not going to fetch a million again.

The Jeep Jinx: Will Fiat be Next?
Automotive Traveler
Many have heard of the Sports Illustrated Jinx: An athlete or team is pictured on the cover of the magazine, then proceeds to lose an important game, match, or competition. Is there an automotive counterpart?
First let me say that I am a Jeep owner, a Jeep historian, and a Jeep enthusiast. I own a 1969 Jeep Super Wagoneer, I’ve published more than a dozen Jeep articles, and I’ve attended many Jeep Jamborees, Camp Jeep events, and have twice driven the Rubicon Trail from start to finish in a Jeep, so it pains me to write about something that can be considered a coincidence or superstition: the Jeep Jinx. But the facts are inarguable; virtually every one of the corporate entities that has owned the Jeep brand has fallen on hard times and most are no longer with us.

Power Tour 2009: Day Four, Mt. Clemens
By Ryan Brutt
HemiPwr70
Today was going to be a long drive, the route took us almost 250 miles. And there was a stop along the way that I wanted to make. So it wasn’t going to be the quick three to four hour jaunt that it has been.
Getting up early, I was packed and on the road by 9:30 am. Which is good for me, since it meant that I would be roughly in the beginning to middle of the pack. I wouldn’t be alone like I had the previous day.
I immediately found a guy in a Fox Body Mustang in the parking lot of the hotel I was at to drive with. We pulled out of the hotel and hopped right on the highway, along with other Power Tour participants coming from different locations.
