Save a Clunker: 1988 Lincoln Town Car Limo

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Now that Cash For Clunkers is officially signed into law, and a solid billion of our taxpayers’ dollars is earmarked for crushing out our recent automotive heritage, rides of the 1985-and-up vintage are more of an endangered species than ever. I’ve seen weirder cars than this Town Car limo end up junked, so don’t think that its uniqueness will save it. I’m sure the small-town limo service that currently owns the car will figure out how to turn it into a cube of steel and a new-car voucher if it doesn’t meet its reserve price. Harley Powered Dragster on Craiglist

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Now this is some fun stuff. This 88ci Harley-Davidson powered dragster, which looks all the world like a slightly puffed up Jr. dragster was built by Phil McGee who is a major supplier of parts to the Jr. dragster community.

The ad says that the car can compete in normal bracket classes and we’re thinking that it moves out pretty well with the 5-speed trans and grunt from the V-Twin. Hell, even today’s higher powered juniors, with their alky swilling, billet block engines make enough snot to scare the pants off the occasional parent who jumps in to make a fun lap.

The chassis is 17ft long and the whole car only weighs about 500lbs, so although one guy could roll it around easily enough, it won’t fit into the bed of your truck. Some custome fab work and creativity could result in a carrier system that may allow you to though.

We wish they included some elapsed times for this creation, because we’re thinking it screams. The seller also said that he will include all the parts to make the car capable of swallowing a 103ci engine for even more snot.

The Best Private Built Silvia Ever

By Ben Schaffer

The Real JDM

I cant believe I have never seen this car before. The build of this car is massively epic. A guy in Leeds built this car in his garage from a bone stock S14 Silvia. He even made his own fiberglass body panels from scratch. This is essentially a backyard built Super GT car…something I was pretty sure I’d never see.

The guy who built this car deserves some sort of award or something. It is truely insane to see how he put this together all on his own. Check out the thread. More pics after the jump.

No Price For Knowledge: the Story of a GT-R

By Steve Neill

Steve Neill

After slowly setting foot onto my doorstep, I felt the sun glare onto my body. I had to shield my eyes to take the twelve steps  to greet the beleaguered and somewhat shy fellow beside my garage, with the extremely common name of James. What James drove, however, was not common. James didn’t know much about what it was that he was driving, besides the fact that he loved it with a passion, and that he was proud to call it his own. He didn’t know that what sat in my driveway held many mysteries, and my day was about to be filled with surprise, and disbelief, all at the same time. What he was driving was a Nissan Skyline BNR32 GT-R, but not your everyday average GT-R. This one was quite special indeed.

Mad Max Interceptor on eBay

By Ron Honig

WaytooFurious

I love looking for unusual cars on eBay, and I was rewarded today when I came across this Mad Max Interceptor. Currently located in Roselle, IL, this replica was built in Australia by Mad Max unlimited. I think this is great because I am a huge fan of the original Mad Max movie. How many of these would you see at car shows? However don’t be fooled by the sellers claim that these XB Ford Falcons are now very rare. Sure there are not as many on the roads as there used to be, but if you want one they are easy enough to find. There are two in my small neighborhood that act as daily drivers!

What's a Davis?

By David Wallens

Grassroots Motorsports

History is littered with automotive entrepreneurs who were convinced that they could build a better mousetrap. One such person was Gary Davis, and his space-aged, postwar creation was the Davis. Yes, it’s a three-wheeler, and 18 were built before the company collapsed in 1948.

The Lane Motor Museum has one of the few remaining cars, and I recently got to go for a ride. Interesting feature: Thanks to the three-wheeled setup, it can nearly do 360-degree turns within its own wheelbase.
