Toy Cars From Famous Collection Fetch $4.2 Million
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
A few months back we told you about the auctions of the toy collection belonging to Donald Kaufman, one of the co-founders of K-B Toys. We’re just now getting the results of the first of those auctions, at which $4.2 million worth of antique toys changed hands, including one that sold for more than $103,000.
That top seller, a circa 1909 Marklin Fidelitas clown caravan made in Germany, blew past its estimate of $30,000 to $40,000 and hammered at $103,500. The auctioneer, Bertoia, noted that nearly three dozen of the toys sold for $20,000 or more. Continue reading at Hemmings

Awesome Opel GT 4×4 on eBay
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
This is funny, cause last week I sent this pic to Katherine, who is determined to buy an Opel GT in the near future. This star-spangled Opel GT has a 1985 CJ7 Jeep frame and a 1978 CJ5 Jeep drivetrain. More pics and details at eBay. Via Jalopnik

Rust in Silence
By Alex Vickers

Where I live there are numerous classics rotting away silently, with nobody to care for them, to love them, to restore them to their once proud status as a loved collectors item. Old Mustangs, Corvettes, Chargers, Mercurys, you name it. It’s not like they’re even tucked away behind a barn or stuck in a shed somewhere. They’re right out in the open, exposed to the elements. What I plan to do is start another series here on CarDomain, to show you one decrepit classic after another, in hopes that someone out there is willing to find it and restore it.
Today, I bring you the beginning of an era, the instigator of the pony wars, the Ford Mustang. This Mustang is exposed, hated by its owner apparently, and hasn’t been on the street in decades. As a matter of fact, it hasn’t left that parking lot in fifteen years. It’s been moved once in the last two years, but only to the other side of the property. I’ve tried to buy it, my father has, both my brothers, a few of my friends, the owner absolutely and blatantly refuses to sell the car or even restore it. It has the original engine, a 4-speed I believe, and leather interior. Honestly, people, how can’t it hurt to see such a car in disrepair?

I’ve been tempted to do this but just haven’t. Have an extra wheel? Then why have a boring plastic hose reel. For some reason, it just seems wrong to do this to the spare PIAA wheel that’s sitting in my garage.

Lord Vader would be proud of his namesake—it’s pretty evil. I spied this supercharged ‘Vette recently at Waterford Hills. More pics after the jump.

Phantom Drophead Coupe: High Class Drifter
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
If you had access to a half-million dollar Rolls-Royce Drophead Coupe, what would you do with it? Long road trip? Take it for a cruise down your local strip? Swing by your ex-girlfriend’s place to return the junk she left in your bathroom? Or would you do some parking lot drifting? Because that’s what these guys did, and it’s awesome. How sweet does the British beefcake look with smoke pouring out the back? Bravo gentlemen.
Kicking Social Networking Into Top Gear
By John Naderi

I went to the premiere of Ken Block’s latest and greatest a while back and KB told me that he was about to film a Top Gear segment. Block later sends me a message thanking us for our video feature on the event. In the email Block writes about how cool it was to bomb his rally car around an airstrip in the desert with James May and Ricky Carmichael. I punch out a cryptic Tweet about Block and RC doing something with Captain Slow in a feeble attempt to name drop my sorry ass onto the D-list. Then I get an @message response to my Tweet that reads, “stay tuned!” with this twitpic attached from a user by the name of “4carmichael”. OMG, WTF, the only thing I love more than Top Gear is the Interweb. And yes, I do think I’m cool because Ken Block and Ricky Carmichael (or at least their people) have reached out to me. I know it’s pathetic, but it’s all I got.

Found this cool shot over at VWVortex, and he has more shots at Flickr. Looks like it was a great show. Anyone else go?

R35 Widebody Design: Photoshop
By Ben Schaffer
The Real JDM
This is pretty interesting. I like posting photoshop work here now and then. It always provides for great inspiration and since it is a lot cheaper than doing the R&D on a full kit, we all get to see more designs! This photoshop is by Deviant Art member agespoom. Also big ups to the blog Farm of Minds who put me on to this.
