Daytona: Final-Lap Fireworks Leave Kyle Busch Junked
By Jen Dunnaway

I’m guessing that mine wasn’t the only living room in America that erupted into cheers during the final lap of the 4th of July’s Sprint Cup race. Still and all, I was relieved to see Kyle Busch able to walk in a straight line after being slammed into the wall by race winner Tony Stewart, flung onto the windshield of Kasey Kahne, and T-boned by Joey Logano–a violent sequence of events that transformed his until-then dominant racecar into a heap of smouldering junk. And after all that, he was still able to do his usual post-wreck routine of storming off the track without speaking to anyone–at least until he was wrestled off to the infield medical center by a gang of NASCAR officials. In that last-lap pandemonium, I think I even caught a glimmer of the old-school Tony Stewart, prior to the whole I’m-a-nice-guy-now schtick, the one who didn’t take crap from punks and would sooner put you in the fence than look at you. All told, it was a pretty incredible race. It was cool to see Richard Petty’s vintage STP Pontiac out on the track, too! More pics below the jump, courtesy of Getty Images.

someone needs to change that wording…. tony did not slam Busch into the wall. It was all Busch’s own fault.

What is considered a block? I thought that in order for a move to be considered a block, there has to be daylight between the two cars involved when looking at them from the front (as if they are running straight towards you). The last I saw daylight of that sort before Kyle turned up the track in front (Kyle thought)of Tony was on the backstretch. Through turns 3 & 4 there was never that sort of daylight. And if you watch the video, Kyle had a handful of wheel, not to block, but because Tony “got him loose” (by applying bumper) and Kyle was fighting to recover. Put emotions aside and look at the video. It was exciting, but NASCAR has got to do something about these cars going airborne like that. Two plate races, and two drivers getting frequent flyer miles. Oh, and by the way, did Carl Edwards “deserve” what he got at Talledaga? Call it dirty or whatever, this racing is like it should be.

Tony was by no means in the wrong here. Kyle Busch blocked once and got away with it, but Stewart pulled the perfect slingshot move and got beside Busch, and Busch tried to block again but Tony was already there.

Tony did nothing wrong. Busch was blocking and blocking Tony got a fender in just a little and Kyle came across his nose. Kyle could have blocked once and went on his own way and would have won but he had to back up. He set him self up with the moves he was doing.
Tony did feel bad in victory lane for what happened to Busch I mean he did push him the whole race and ended up in 14th after destroying a car.

Exciting finish. Im glad Busch got taken out. Tony did nothing wrong, Busch came across Tony’s nose when there was no room. Tony better watch his back the next few races cause Kyle is dirty racer and will probably be looking to get Tony back.

What a great finish to an awesome race! Way to go Tony Stewart and finally Kyle Busch gets what he deserves for pulling stuff like that in the final laps.
