Rally Crash: Why the Hell Would You Park There?

Even as someone who’s never been overly concerned about where I park my cars—motorcycles are a different story—the stupidity on display here is mind-bending. Seriously, who the hell thinks it’s a good idea to park their car on the edge of a rally course? Standing there is stupid enough, but at least you can count on your reflexes to give you a fighting chance if a driver looses it. It’s tough to tell exactly how many cars were damaged in the first crash, but it’s safe to say some major human carnage was avoided when a second driver plows into the mess. At one point, there are a dozen people in the road trying to move the crippled machine, and from what I can tell, they all got clear. The guy off to the right is one lucky dude…

anyone who has said these people are stupid ar 100% right. There is a lot saffer way to opperate a race like this, but then we wouldnt have these crazy ass vids to show us what not to do.

Not sure, but I think one of the spectators on the right side of the SRT4 got hit and thrown by that STI. Red shirt, looks like he’s laying on the ground between parked cars at the end of the video.

What a bunch of morons? come on….This is RALLY!!! This is part of what this sport is all about. They line the track at the end of the stages, and at the begining with passages barely big enough for the cars to get through. Only in America do we have lawyers offering up commonsense to keep spectators out of the way.
Sure its hairy to be that close to the action. But then these legs can be fairly lonely as far as emergency personnel. Thats when the spectators get involved flipping over cars that have slid off the track, offering first adi to those injured, or getting plowed by a driver not paying attention in situatuions like this one. Its all part of it. This is what its all about.
Again I go back to the vid of the videographer that damn near got his balls ripped off when the rally driver plowed the bridge abutment right next to him at 90 mph …

Not only is it stupid to park your car there, but to stand on the other side of your car with just a cliff behind you? yeah, like if a rally car hits your car, your car is going to stop it from killing you, instead you and your car go rolling down the hill behind you, then you’s be just lucky to not get crushed. just ridiculous
