Help Plan Mr. Angry's Road Trip Across America

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Mr. Angry is once again embarking on a cross country journey. This time from he’s running from NYC to Reno, Nevada for Hot August Nights and then onto Monterrey, California for the Concours at Pebble Beach. The thing is, he hasn’t finalized his route yet, and he wants your help. Ideally, he’d like to hit as many tracks, car shows or cruise nights as possible, and would love to meet up with CarDomain member along the way. In fact, he’ll have Mr. Angry t-shirts to give out to anyone who manages to track down the ’68 Charger. And of course he’d love to caravan with anyone who’s interested. Check out this thread at DodgeCharger.com and then let us know your route suggestions in the comments below. The road trip starts Saturday July 25 and of course Mike will be documenting the journey right here on CarDomain!

Avoid D.C. during the daytime, weekends or weekdays. I always pass thru that S-hole at night, much better then BUT day or night watch out for Prince William Cty’s finest. Done that drive dozens of times.

We’d love to have you at the Saturday night cruise in Glen Burnie, MD (south of Baltimore). Mall parking lot, lots of space, huge turnout when the weather’s good and pretty decent Mopar representation. Looks like you won’t be that far south before you head west, though.

So you will just be in Eastern PA? Are you making any stops in PA?

Well, here’s the deal so far – and please give me some feedback.
.
Starting in NYC – Rte. 80 into PA to Rte. 81 into W. Virginia, Virginia, Knoxville TN. Then Rte. 40 through the rest of TN, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
.
Cut up on Rte. 35 into Kansas, then hit Rte. 70 through Colorado and into Utah. From there pick up Rte. 15 through Las Vegas, NV – then pick up Rte. 10 and over Los Angeles, CA. From there we’ll hit Rte. 101 up to San Francisco and then jump on Rte. 80 into Reno, NV…
.
Whatcha’ all think?

He could always come through NE Ohio. After all Summit Racing is in Tallmage. The Rock Hall is in Cleveland and the Football Hall of Fame, Lincoln Highway, and Mckinley Monument are all in Canton. Or he could always come through close to where I’m currently stationed. There’s nothing but beautiful national forest and open road in Pendleton Co., West Virginia. Nearby Senaca Rocks is great stopping point for a picture if you don’t have time to climb the cliffs. There’s a wild west style trading post there too.

We usually get a pretty big car show every friday night (as long as the weather is nice) in Rolling Meadows, IL (about 20 miles northwest of Chicago). A few years back, it was named one of the top 10 in the country for a weekly show by Corvette Quarterly (don’t quote me on that, but I’m pretty sure that’s the magazine).
It’s right next door to Taco Bell
2997 Kirchoff Road
Rolling Meadows, IL 60008

Mike!!! You’ll have to blow through the Greater Sacramento area here in California! I would love to get a photo with you and the Car, and my silly Saturn….I know of another CarDomain perinnial favorite…Fireball22… Please let me know your travel plans (what time do you plan to leave Reno) And I can probably organise a place to meet you! If I am not mistaken, there are plenty of CD members in this town. And we are, by definition, on the main route to Pebble…..

I’m a little confused. This post says the trip starts Aug.25th. The linked thread at DodgeCharger.com says July 25th.

“IF everyone tells me where to go.” No worries there;) Anyway, I certainly second the Route 66 from Chicago to St. Louis. The Route 66 Museum is in my hometown. There’s a very active car culture here. The Rustic Auto club knows how to have a good time. Stock car races are Saturday night. My uncle’s body shop has been restored by the Route 66 association and is an historic stop. Plus, I owe you a beer from last weekend.

I’m kinda diggin’ the Rte. 66 idea. From NY, Chicago is 800 miles, so I’m thinking a day and half of travel. Springfield, IL is only 200 miles from there, so we’d definitely breeze on through… what’s on the way to Chicago though as far as car shows, cruise nights, tracks etc?

You got to go to South Lake Tahoe when in Reno. Might be busy on that 2 lane highway but it’s a beautiful curvy drive down Hwy 50. Used to live up that way so I’m well versed and known the spots, wish I could make it but I won’t be up there till street vibrations.

Well I would love for you to take a jaunt down to Oklahoma, there isn’t much to do/see… Though according to the 2004 Power Tour guide video in Ripley, OK there is Rick Kirk’s RK Machine which is a small museum with some cool old fords and whatnot as well as him building some muscle cars and customs…

I am near Oklahoma City, so Ripley is still a bit away from me, but I’d sure love to meet you even though right now I am cool-car-less ;-)

Honey, you need to come up to Woodward. Even if you can’t make if for the Dream Cruise, you still have to roll on the road that built hot rods. I’ll even take you to John DeLorean’s grave. Plus, I want to see Johnny. :-)

Mike, Bourkemaster here. Cardomain logged me in as some number. I’ll be in State College, Pennsylvania on the 25th at the Centre County Last Cruise car show. I will be bringing my Cutlass and judging at the show. I’m sure the motorheads in Centre County Pennsylvania would be stoked to have you attend the show. State College is about 4 hours West of NYC on 80. Its almost a straight shot. Check it out. Message me if you want to stop…wait…wrong month. The Last Cruise is next weekend. You’re still invited if you want to come out.

Hey Guys / Gals -

Here’s the deal. I’m driving from NYC to CA then out to Reno, NV for Hot August Nights. Then back to CA again for the Pebble Beach show in Monterrey. My goal is to hit a different cruise night, drag strip, oval track, dirt track, car show, etc… every night. I want to see EVERYTHING from Imports, to Exotics to American Muscle. Thus the reason for needing everyone’s help. Let me know where ya’ll live, what happens in your areas – I want to know anything and everything car related that goes on out there.
.
I’ll be driving my 68′ Charger with my buddy Johnny “The Wrench” Sigismondi. I’m figuring we’ll cover around 4000 + miles when all is said and done, so it should be one hell of a trip… IF everyone tells me where to go.
.
Keep the posts coming… I’m leaving in 7 days!
.
Thanks – Mike

Well Route 6 through northern PA is a beautiful ride, i think you would like that one. Also the Zippo factory is on the way in bradford PA, always worth a look. If you plan to come over that way, let us know, ill bring up our 68 Camaro and 71 Roadrunner and cruise the rest of route 6 into ohio with ya.
