Stop on Red Week? Seriously?
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
It’s bad enough that we need legislation banning things like texting and talking on the phone while driving, but people seriously need to be reminded to stop at red lights? What the hell is the problem here? Do Americans just spend so much time in their cars that we just think they’re big living rooms that happen to move around? What’s next, “Do Not Use Your Hair Dryer in the Shower Week?” Damn, people are dumb. Head over to MSNBC for all the details on this groundbreaking program.

If you want a real-world idea of just how hairbrained these disconnected drivers can be, commute with them on a motorcycle. While being on the bike gives me a bit of a bird’s-eye view of their scary habits, it’s also a reminder of how their failure to focus on their driving is truly life-threatening to a guy on two wheels.

Last week I had a guy with a cell phone to his ear come into a parking lot where he obviously didn’t think that the DO NOT ENTER signs facing in his direction applied to him. I had to lay my Shadow down or hit him head on. Had his wife not screamed as I hit the pavement I don’t think he’d have stopped. Did he offer to help lift the bike off of my leg? No, he bailed when I cussed at him for his stupidity.

Man LedZeppelin you got me thinking again, about two weeks ago some idiots who think their car just drives by itself pull right out in front of me and then they start laughing..now usually I’m a pretty conent person and let the idiots be idiots but this time I may have let some hand gestures do the talking, and when I pull up next to them they say,” well that wasn’t necessary I didn’t see you”, how the hell didn’t you see me, It was a fairly bright day and I have dark red sedan. It’s just one of those times that where you ask “where are the cops when you need’em ?”

This is a bit Road-Rageous….but…I have wanted to get out of my car when I happen upon an accident where some moron forgot he was piloting a two ton killing machine on the edge of insanity. I have wanted to go over and pound his mercilessly stupid pug face into a bloody pulp. Take his electronic gear on his belt and grind it into his face, snap off his turn indicator stick, cause he doesnt think he needs it so why have it? Stab him with it, rip out the damn GPS unit and crack it over his head, then mount his sorry ass over his hood and pin a note to his ass that reads “I thought my car drove itself”
There…..I feel better now…….

I Facebook, Tweet (well I have an account…havent really used it…) and I have Cardomain…But I only use it at night, or on my days off before the family commandeers the computer.
Point is, I don’t do any of those things while driving.
Have I run a red light? Once or twice. BUT…I am fully aware I have done so reconizing my bad and freaking that a cop may be near. Its not something I take lightly. How many people have you seen runa light, cross the yellow line, go down a one way the wrong way….AND GET MAD AT EVERY BODY ELSE?!?!? Dammit…Driving is a DAMN PRIVELDGE! NOT A RIGHT! If you want to act a fool, take up drifting, slide a car around, burn up tires and get paid for it!
But keep the radical driving off the streets. TRY Common Sense for once, and see how you feel when you get home…If you make it after blowing that red light…Yeah Im talking to all those reading this on your iPhone right now in the middle of traffic!

Past two weeks I’ve seen about five people just go right through stop lights without even stopping. (I just can’t get over this topic)

I have noticed delivering parts that the red light is a mere suggestion to some people. I dont condone it but I think what happens, at least here, is its a tourist town and in the summer our population doubles in the summer so people are trying to make up time. When traffic is bad people get in a hurry and start doing stupid stuff but it is a load that there is a week to remind us. How about cops remind people by writing people tickets.

I agree with you 110%, people do not take the task of driving as serious as it should be taken. I passed some idiot on the expressway, and guess what, his face is glue to his cell phone.

Truthfully though stop on red week, that’s as stupid as saying “remember to breath week”. A bunch of the idiots on the road today need to go back to driving school. The only things taken seriously this day in age are “Myspace”, “Twitter”, and “Facebook” all of which I don’t participate in.
