I Be Trippin…

By David Clarke

Stupid lingo aside, I’m getting ready to go on my first road trip of the summer. Well technically it’s still summer, but I’ll be heading to Pittsburgh, PA on September 10th from Albany, NY which rounds out to about 1000 miles there and back.  I’m going there to see the Steelers home opener with two die-hard Steelers fans to watch the game and to watch the Superbowl Championship ceremony. My trip itinerary includes driving down I-90 west into Buffalo, NY where we’ll be picking up one of the two fans, and then promptly heading back onto I-90 where we’ll eventually hit I-79 South into Pittsburgh. And what we’ll be taking this manly roadtrip in, none other than a dark gray 2007 Hyundai Elantra Sedan. Chosen for its maximum gas mileage and a minimum comfort. This is gonna be fun. Have you taken your road trip yet, if so where did ya go ?

I made a trip this May from Chicago to Las Vegas then to L.A. Then in June I went I drove from Chicago to Houston T.X. The same month I drove from Chiago to Atlanta. Next month I’ll be going to Louisville KY. I’m not the biggest Plane fan. And driving a nice whip always seemed sexier.

Berkley MI to Ridgefield CT and then to NH ( Wimdham, Hampton Beach and Barstead). Round trip from July 3rd to July 18th. 2500 miles, 2 car shows, 7 cruise-ins and a lot of rain. Long distance award. Averaged 23.8 mpg with a tank best of 27.63 mpg. All in my little V6 stuffed Chevette (SC,N2O,WI). I like the highway onramps………. because 0-60 is legal.

I love road trips! In the past 2 weeks I went from Kamloops To Kent Washington, did some sightseeing in Seatlle as well as a car meet, camped in Kent for 3 days and then back to Kamloops.. I was in Kamloops for a couple days when I decided I would end my vacation with a random Road trip to Calgary planned in less than a day with a friend. Went to surprise a friend, and did some sightseeing there as well. Long Drives are my favourite thing in the world! I thin everyone should road trip at least once.

There are too many I’s in your Itinerary in my opinion. You need to hit the back roads, skip the interstates, pick out some old highways. I did over 1000 miles every weekend last summer, and even on 3,200 mile trip in like two days with only me driving and stopping for fuel and energy drinks. I didn’t even stop to pee, that was done in transit in a 64oz Gatorade bottle. with an additional 1000 tacked on a few hours later.

I do have a trip planned for next summer or the one after to Lucan, Ontario, Canada to see David Rock and totally lose it on his farm.

I went to Daytona from Pensacola, New Orleans from Pensacola (Cafe Beignet was the best! Couldn’t beat the hundreds of whore houses, though), Frankfort, Kentucky from Pensacola, Newark, Ohio from Frankfort, and almost made it to Wheeling, West Virginia on accident. All of this was this year, not necessarily this summer, but they all happened this year.

I live in Washington DC. And my dad rode his motorcycle (Harley Davisdon Electroglide classic) to ATL for a bike show. But we all went to Detroit for last years, and this years Woodward Cruise.

Oh and I did 1500 miles in one weekend 2 weeks ago. Had to do a round trip with a 6 hour rest in GA. 13 hours down, 13 back. Welcome 2 hell.

Made the trip from above Philly to Augusta, GA more times than I can- or want to remember. Distance is over 720 miles down 95 and west on 20. Never stayed at a hotel along the way, always bit the bullet. Best time was 10 hours in a toyota previa minivan, drafting trucks. If I never do it again it would be too soon, but that journey is less avoidable than death… or taxes.
