Mama Mia: New Pics of Ferrari's New 458 Italia!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Ferrari has released more images of its spanking new 458 Italia, and unlike the first batch of pics, they show the new Cavallino out in the real world, instead of the sterile confines of a photo studio. While it’s nearly impossible to take a bad picture of a Ferrari, I like the al fresco ones a lot better. The studio shots gave me an almost CGI vibe, which is probably due to the fact that even in person, the 562HP F430 replacement almost certainly looks unreal. Damn, I love the silky smooth curves of that real end! Head over to StreetFire to hear its engine note and watch Paolo Pininfarina explain some of the finer details of the bambino’s styling, and hit the jump for three more pics.

There hasn’t been a single unique Ferrari since the F50. They all look the same and sound the same, and in my life time, they lost the true super car feel and look.

Just when you didn’t think they could make a sexier Ferrari, here ya go. Just one that stood out to me, the flare up on the headlights looks a lil trendy, seems like they were taking styling cues from the BMW 5 series or something. Def. not a huge problem as this fine automobile will be the object of my affections for many nights to come

Looks great, but its nothing new. Pretty standard for Ferrari lately, which isn’t a bad thing but I don’t see many people getting too excited about it.

ferrari is starting to fall off to be honest there style isnt going anywhere. unlike lambo and porche even merging into the super sedan world even aston is about to kill the market with its new Rapide…ferrari is just starting to make bored old cars! just my opinion.

It looks great from the back but the front facisa looks awful!.

If they could change the front bumper the car would be great.

I give it on a scale of 1-5 5 being the highest a solid 4. Great overall car but a bad bumper.

All the new cars look mean for some reason, this reminds me of BK’s angry whopper. What do u think they did to get them pissed?

Ferrari needs to go on the maury show to try and figure out “Who’s the father” tiburon or gallardo. This Ferrari is not sexy at all looks like a bunch up ideas from somebody who had to much wine hahaha

looks like an import, not an exotic, ……….may I present to you the 2010 hyundai tiburon

I wanted to give my review before watching the video. The design is drive by aerodynamics. So was the original Dodge Intrepid. Much of today’s higher end rides are designed with that in mind. Innovative….sure. Good looking. Well the jury is already starting to give their answers.

There are many elements that by themselves would look great on a Ferrari. I just don’t think this Ferrari is the right one…

While the profile is intriguing, the overall styling looks like Ford gave it a shot (nothing against you Ford guys…) using some Porche styling cues (nothing against you Porche guys. Over all, this doesnt appear to be a Ferrari. The headlights, misaligned here to great degree, look like something from the land of the Rising Sun. (Nothing against you GTR guys) The tail looks like a sad attempt at remembering the Enzo. It is not refined by any measure. A kid with lego’s could sculpt a better more sensual rear quarter with standard blocks. The Flanks and greenhouse are about the only relative lines familiar to Ferrari. Yet the lines of the cabin have been so oft repeated by other marques trying their hands at super exotics.
The nose looks akin to the Raging Bull than a standard Prancing Stallion. Cross company designing?

The interior is really something else all together. It resembles one of those expensive but cheaply built boom boxes that bulge with ungainly speaker pods from every bad angle possible. One could almost put this car on the shelf next to those stereo’s at the nearest tourist trap, and the car would be right at home. It almost appears like a futurists retro design on the distant future. It is very confusing and too distracting for the auto enthusiast to try deciphering during hard cornering. So many buttons and switches, odd angles and weird edges jutting off of the dash. I would appear more at home in an old Chevrolet Motorama of 1959. About the only disign cue here I would like to try is the bizarrely shaped steering wheel. It looks like it would fall into my hands with ease for sport driving. Then again, it might now. But it merits a second look in a less confusing cabin. I think the California is by far a better looking Stallion to roll from the Maranello stables than this horse. Still with many marques looking to the distant past for inspiration, I would love to see a Daytona again or a GTO from the 60′s…

I like it…but the front end doesn’t like something ferrari would make…

Maybe my local dealer will have a backlog of F430s that he’s gotta move move move! Might even get free undercoating.
