Detroit's Woodward Dream Cruise 2009
Antonio Alvendia
Detroit’s annual Woodward Dream Cruise rolled into town this weekend along with droves of visitors looking to get in on the fun and Cruise Woodward. The estimated attendance was to the tune of just over 1 million visitors, which is said to be a few hundred thousand less than last year, although I’m not sure exactly how you’d go about counting everyone. Despite the Los Angeles-style traffic that comes with so many visitors, the boost in the economy is more than welcome around these parts. I even saw a few nuns, of all people, hustling visitors for their prime parking spots at a church parking lot. Well done sisters!
For Detroiters, it was a pleasant surprise to see the American automakers on hand and still showing their support for the event. Ford went as far as shutting down a portion of 9 mile Rd. in Ferndale,MI to turn it into Mustang Alley, lining both sides of the street with Mustangs from all generations and styles. It was pretty impressive such a variety of Mustangs including the original Shelby’s from the mid-60′s.

Year of the Thunderbird
Chris Borrelli
Back in 2002 Ford brought back its iconic Thunderbird. The Thunderbird was given a retro design (actually starting the whole retro look) making it seem as if it was taken straight from the 50s. The Thunderbird was discontinued in 2005 after dropping sales (possibly due to introduction of the redesigned Mustang). Well cry no more T-Bird lovers, it’s said that the T-bird will return in 2012 with a retro look, keeping the classic two seater design. Via Thunderbirdnest Thanks ___nes___!

Exclusive: GI Joe Builds Revealed
By Fireball Tim
Movie Car Design Master
Now that GI Joe has come out, I can reveal some photos of the badass Hummer-type vehicles we did at CVS. BIG wouldn’t be a word I would use. MASSIVA-NOURMOUS would work better.
Now, I bet you’re asking yourself, “Is MASSIVA-NOURMOUS a word?” Well, since I blog, I like to make up cool words. And fancy words are just the thing when you’re building things that make no sense and will probably blow up. And these… did.
Boom.

Sneak Peak at Forza 3!
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
A couple of weeks back, Ryan and I got a chance to go over and tour the Turn 10 studios, where the developers and testers are putting the finishing touches on Forza 3. Ordinarily, getting out of the office in the middle of the day to go play video games is a sweet enough deal by itself. But the really cool part? We got to take the tour with drifters Rhys Millen, Dai Yoshihara, and Chris Forsberg, who were all in town for Formula D Seattle! Obviously we were both curious to see how their real driving skills would translate to the virtual world, and we got plenty of opportunities to see them behind the wheel.

Ferrari 250 TR Wrecks at Monterey Historic Races
By Rob Einaudi

This weekend at the Monterey Historic Races, a gorgeous 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa left the track and ran into the tire wall. Luckily, the driver is ok and the car can be fixed. Check out this video assembled from the still images taken by photographer Drew Philips. Via Autoblog
Nelson Supercars Builds a Crazy, 1,750hp Thing-a-ma-jig
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
Tom Nelson is a name we’re sure you know. He’s the California engine and supercar builder who has had his hands in a bunch of high profile projects. His latest creation is a wild Chevy Avalanche truggy that’s got a twin-turbo, all-aluminum, 427ci Chevy motor that he claims makes 1,750 horsepower. It also has a sequentially shifted five-speed manual trans that has had the clutched swapped for a torque converter.
Apparently this truck is going to be used for desert running and terrorizing the dunes out west. There’s a reason we never see junk like this back east, we’ve got none of that stuff.
It’s a wild ass truck that runs like stink on the asphalt, so we’re sure it’ll be a hoot on the sand. Our favorite part is naturally the backside where the motor, plumbing and mechanical goodness is literally hanging out in the breeze for all to see.
This 10 minute video is wild stuff and it’ll have you craving a spot in one of the passenger seats. This thing seats four!
Stanceworks Roadtrip

Car Culture At Large
In a hour and half I can make a cross country road trip to the west coast in Holland. Doing the same thing in the US is something else. I would love to do the same thing that Mike Burroughs did with his BMW E28, that some of you might have seen before. This rusted BMW E28 just oozes style. Thanks to the photographic eye of Mike Burroughs we can enjoy some more of shots of this amazing car taken during his trip from Nashville, TN to San Jose, CA. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Et Tu, XJ?
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
Had David LaChance, Hemmings patron saint of lost British automotive causes, spotted this XJ6 in the Clunker lot at Crossroads Ford Mercury in Ravena, N.Y., he’d have probably strapped himself to the bonnet and demanded safe asylum for the car in Coventry or maybe a pardon from the Queen.
It is a shame that a car which retailed north of $50,000 when it was new in 1995 is now on its way to a sodium silicate tea party. Other than a few unfortunate dents and a general lack of housekeeping in the cockpit, the XJ looked like it should be cruising to the country club not the crusher. Just 93K on the clock too. The EPA rates this XJ6 at 15 city and 22 highway with a combined mpg of 18, so it’s unfortunately a target for the government’s newest corporate/consumer welfare program. Honda Insight Aero Tuned
By Ben Schaffer
The Real JDM
I find myself to be in the minority when it comes to the use of car pictures…I almost always find the rear of tuned cars more fascinating than the front. Despite knowing that is wrong from a media perspective, (magazines almost always feature the front of the car primarily), I rarely care about convention and I find myself almost always featuring a rear shot first and a front shot later on. Most of the cars I’ve had a hand in building I also prefer the rear to the front as well (my S2000 for certain I prefer the rear profile over the front).
