Hippy Transport in Nimbin

By Ron Honig

WaytooFurious

As a part of our holiday last week we decided to check out Nimbin, which is famous throughout Australia for those seeking an ‘alternative’ lifestyle. So it is the last place that I would usually think of going. However, occasionally you have to see how the other half live just to remind yourself how good your own life is. I decided to keep my camera handy in case I came across any ‘hippy’ transportation. It didn’t take long till we saw this VW in the main street. It actually forms part of the shop front for some sort of store. I just wish that I had the Plymouth with me during my visit. I could have laid down some rubber right in the main street.

Formula Drift Seattle, Part 2

By Antonio Alvendia

Antonio Alvendia

Here’s a real dope R32 Skyline 4door that came from British Columbia (that’s Canada, to those of us who are ignorant Americans). More photos of this car coming soon! It’s so cool that you can register a car like an R32 Skyline, A31 Cefiro or C33 Laurel and just drive it on the street, legally in Canada. What the hell are we still doing living in Southern Cali, anyway? (Who am I kidding, I love Southern Cali…) Continue reading and view more photos on Motormavens

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

When we last left Geoff Hacker and the Bill Burke bellytank re-creation that he commissioned, they had just set out for Bonneville. Unsurprisingly, the tank has been well-received by the Speedweek thrill-seekers, and geoff seems to be having a blast. More pics at Hemmings

GM Unveils Product Plans, 2014 Camaro Included!

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Yesterday, GM held a press conference announcing its short term product release plans and they included a mention about the Camaro being “freshened” in the 2014/2015 model year.

This is good news for those of us who were nervy about the ability of the Camaro to survive the government stewardship they are currently living through.

According to the Automotive News report, the Camaro convertible which was to be pushed to 2012, will now be moved up to the 2011 model year as the General has some cashola for tooling and the necessary production changes to build the car.

Using A Virtual Paint Booth Before A Real Respray

By Sam Barer

Sound Classics

Car collectors are faced with the daunting challenge of having a vehicle repainted. For those thinking about a complete change in the color scheme, it can be very difficult to visualize what different paint combinations might look like.

A few years ago I started putting my photo editing skills to work to help choose paint colors. Around here we call it the Sound Classics Virtual Paint Booth. The basic concept is quite simple – take one or more photos of the vehicle you intend to paint, then use Photoshop to have your way with it.

The latest victim of the SCVPB is our recently acquired 1979 Chevrolet K10 project. Although its factory paint scheme was maroon and charcoal, it came to us in a combination of primer black front and two-tone silver middle and rear. The consensus around the team was that we wanted a combination of black and silver, so I experimented with many combinations for roof, top, center and lower sections. After completing more similar-but-different pictures than a decade’s worth of Joan Rivers’ head shots, we settled on a winner.

Now printed out, it goes with the truck to the paint shop to illustrate exactly what we want.

"Cash For Clunkers" Killing "Cars For Kids"

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

Predictably, the CARS program is turning out to be the bane of certain grassroots charities. You know those ones who offer to take your junk car off your hands in exchange for a tax write-off? They then re-sell those clunkers at auction, either to new life or to the scrapper–either way, the car doesn’t go to waste. And as any non-rocket-scientist can probably figure out, donations to these kinds of charities are way, way down since Cash for Clunkers began its reign, as eager consumers sign their cars over to be destroyed in exchange for a down payment on more financial slavery, instead of sending them off to a good cause and a new life.  The Texas-based Cars For Kids program, which supports at-risk high-schoolers, is one of the casualties whose operators have been taking a heap of calls “from people backing out of donations” in favor of the dealership. Similar fate for the American Children’s Society, which rehabilitates and sells junk cars to raise money kids battling cancer. Sad, but strangely typical, isn’t it? Check out the AP News clip below, and the ACS piece here.
