eBay Motors Master Contest

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

My buddy Famous Rhodes over at eBay Motors roped me into being a judge for their new Motors Master Contest. It’s actually a pretty decent contest with some great prizes. Got a cool project vehicle? Then enter for a chance to win a trip to SEMA plus a $2,500 eBay Motors shopping spree (four prizes total, plus six random drawing prizes—one per week—for $1,000 eBay Motors gift certificates). Just go to the Motors Master Contest site, sign in with your eBay user ID, and follow the directions. Basically you just need to answer a few questions and then upload a a 2-3 minute video showing off your project. Don’t wait too long cause the contest is only open until August 31. Here’s a quick video with Famous outside the eBay headquarters in San Jose.

Fast and Furious Charger Heads to Monterey Auction

By Fireball Tim

Movie Car Design Master

So, the boys at Cinema Vehicles are furiously trying to finish the original Fast and Furious Charger (from the first movie) so that it can head to Monterey for the Mecum Auction. This beast should fetch a pretty penny and here’s why….

Ah hem…

The motor is a Mopar 528 Hemi with Indy cylinder racing heads. A Blower Shop 8/71 blower with electronic fuel injection and BDS Bugcatcher scoop with a NOS 250 HP nitrous injection. Hold on, gotta catch my breath for a second…

….Ok, good to go. It has a TCI prepped auto tranny with a Currie 9″ rear. The motor’s been dynoed at 915hp on 91 octane,…. um, without NOS.

You still standing? Get to Monterey and see this monster…

Chrysler's Fate?

By Chris Trout

Troutster52

Eager to witness the brutal destruction of a pile of neglected cars, I attended the local county fair demolition derby this past weekend.  My expectations were met and exceeded as the killing blows were dealt to nearly all vehicles, most of which had entered the event hanging onto life by only a thread.  As is always true with any good demo derby, the un-muffled roar of engines filled the air blending with radiator steam, oil-burning exhaust and mud.

What I did not expect to see was an orange, reasonably straight AMC Gremlin complete with header relief in the hood, and all the other demo derby trimmings.  I always love to see an obscure piece of automotive history, but I had mixed emotions. The announcer begged it be withdrawn from the derby and restored and I couldn’t help but wonder if this little Gremlin is representative of Chrysler Corporation’s fate.

Hot Rod Heaven

By Tony Castellano

Tcassa

This past weekend saw one of England’s biggest hot rod events, the Supernationals, held just an hour north of London. And what an event it was! Now, I’ve been to many rod shows both here, Down Under and the US, and let me say the quality and quantity of hot rods and customs in England is simply superb. A healthy amount of 32s and 34s, T-buckets and rat rods were scattered throughout the grounds, accompanied by an assortment of customs, all pre-1972. A great all-round show. More pics after the jump!

Unearthed: The Government Instructions on Killing "Clunker" Engines

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

We have located and read the sickening instructions being handed down by the government to be used by car dealers to kill the motors of “Cash for Clunkers” trade-ins. This whole thing is getting creepier by the second and this document smacks of every weird science fiction novel we have ever read.

Check out the verbatium text of the document after the jump. Ready a trash can or puke bucket as this will make you sick.

AE86 Global Massive

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

This post isn’t about having the right or the wrong rims. It’s not about stance, offset, demon camber or wheel fitment. Nor is this post about whether or not it’s right or wrong to swap your AE86 engine to another brand. No, this post is about one thing only: a celebration of the worldwide AE86 community. In compiling these photos, I’m quite amazing to me to see just how far the cult of the Hachiroku has spread… It seems like there are fans of this little car in every pocket of the globe! See tons of AE86 pics Speedhunters!

Pure Speculation: Saturn's New Models After the Roger Penske Takeover

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

It looks like the acquisition of Saturn by the Penske Group will be finalized this September. It looks like all the dealers will remain independent, but will have to sign a new dealer agreement with the new owners. So, why is this of any interest to the CarDomain reader? With the closing of the GM Facility that produced the Saturn Sky (along with the Pontiac Solstice), I though it would be prudent to see what the new Saturn product offerings might look like. So come along with me on a voyage of discovery, and see if the magic crystal ball is working.

Show Us Your Patch!

By David Clarke

highspeedhijinks

Owning one FWD car knocking on the door of 150,000 miles, and another car that’s currently DOA due to an exhaust header issue, it’s been a very long time since I’ve laid some rubber on the pavement. I’m talking a good old fashioned, no-holds-barred, tire-torching burnout. Some of you guys have got the goods. So I say let the rubber fly! Show us how long of a patch of rubber you can lay with your machine and post it on your ride page. The member with the longest stripes wins. No prizes for this one, just pride!

Where There's Smoke…

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Generally, the old adage about smoke and fire doesn’t hold true during burnouts, but unfortunately, in this case it did. From the intensity of this burnout, the motor underneath the hood of this little Civic must have had some grunt to it. Too bad it’s toast now…
