Nostalgic Cars at Simpson Design
Antonio Alvendia
We’ve had mega coverage of the Pacific Northwest’s incredible drift scene lately, so how ’bout a stroll down the path less traveled with some Olde World European classics? These are cars you won’t see hanging their tails out in a wall-scraping slide, but that doesn’t mean they’re any less fascinating. To find them, we had to hop onto one of Washington’s many state ferry boats and hitch a ride to Whidbey Island, about an hour north of Seattle and home of Simpson Design. What Did You Do This Weekend?
By Jen Dunnaway

Chris and I put a couple hundred miles on his Impala convertible to go check out the DeLoreans in Hoquiam, WA. The town’s historic 7th Street Theater has been hosting a Back To The Future screening for the last couple of years (this year they showed Back To The Future 2) and they always invite the Pacific Northwest DeLorean Club, who tend to turn out en masse for the event. John and I checked it out last year, and when I heard they were screening the second movie, I wasn’t about to pass up the chance to check out one of my favorite flicks on the big screen and to see all those DeLoreans lined up on the street–it’s just such a trip to see so many of them in one place. Check out a ton more pics on 7th Street Theater’s Facebook page.
How about you–what did you do this weekend?

Movin' On Up!

Since it didn’t manage to make it to qualifying, the EPMiata.Com Miata had to start 23rd during this race at Sebring International Raceway. But after a scant two and a half laps, it had already passed 15 cars, and finished fourth overall. How’s that for driving? Check out this edit showing all the overtaking action in four minutes.

Formula Drift Sonoma: Con-Tro-Ver-Sy
By John Naderi
StreetFire.net
The cloud of controversy continues to float over drifting like so much Schleprockitude (judges, can I get a ruling on this word?). This weekend at the latest Formula Drift event at Sonoma, the drama continued.
This season we’ve seen D1 take its lumps over the behavior of a certain team (rhymes with orange) and FD has been dealing with the legality of certain cars in a sport already stacked with such an eclectic mix of hardware. And yet, through it all, one man and his online outlet have raked through the muck to tackle these tough issues. And that man is Wrecked Magazine’s Joey Redmond. Joey does not provide any dramatic montage vid clips, nor artsy imagery and flowery prose, not even harsh critiques of stance and wheel offset. No, this guy delivers the goods and is quickly becoming the Walter Freakin’ Cronkite of the drift world, only with more breathing and less grammar (hey, Joey, spel chek, yo!).
Wrecked is the only outlet to break the news on the ruling on yesterday’s top 32 battle between current points leader Chris Forsberg and Calvin Wan. Click here, here or here for more on this matter.
As a fan of drifting and Formula Drift I hope this can get worked out. As a wannabe I’m a huge proponent of the skill and stones these pro drifters have to fling a car sideways at near triple-digit speeds inches away from another car doing the same thing. I’m also a huge fan of the great show put on by Formula Drift. Which begs the eternal question, is drifting a motorsport or a show? The top 16 are running today, check out StreetFire.net for video from the weekend and the Wrecked Magazine blog for more hard-hitting reports.

MINI Roadside Assistance: There's an App for That!
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
MINI has released the first-ever roadside assistance app for the iPhone, and while I think the technology is pretty trick—it’ll talk to the car so the techs know what’s wrong, give them GPS coordinates, etc—the whole idea of roadside assistance for cars this new kind of cracks me up. I mean, I’ve driven and ridden in tons of beaters over the years, and while I did manage to run my old Jag out of gas a few times—the gauge didn’t work—mechanical issues have never left me stranded. It totally makes me wonder what’s below the fold after “battery,” “tire,” and “fuel.” You know if Ferrari or Lamborghini ever release an app, it’ll have to include “car is on fire.” via Motor Authority.

Spanking New Forza 3 Images: Really Intense
By John Coyle

There are 400 cars to choose from in the forthcoming Forza 3 game, and if you read about my trip out to Turn 10 Studios, you know just how much work goes into rendering them accurately. You can check out these stills of the Lamborghini Reventon, Audi A4 touring car, Corvette ZR1, BMW M3 GT2, Nissan Skyline R33, and Mustang SVT Cobra R right now, but you’ll have to wait until October to actually play. Don’t worry though, it’ll be worth the wait.

eBay Motors Master Contest: What Are You Waiting For?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
A few weeks ago I told you guys about the eBay Motors Master Contest. For some reason, with just two weeks to go, there are very few entries. So pretty much anyone who enters at this point will have a pretty decent chance to win a trip to SEMA plus a $2,500 eBay Motors shopping spree (not to mention one of the random drawing prizes for $1,000 eBay Motors gift certificates). So what are you waiting for?
