2011 Mustang Engine Specs Released!
Chris Borrelli
For everyone that has been upset by the Mustang GT’s current 4.6 litre engine and it’s lack of power cry no more! Ford has just released the engine specs for the 2011 base Mustang and Mustang GT. The base ‘Stang will get Ford’s current 3.7 litre V6 that is currently offered in some Lincoln models, but it will receive a bump in power to 315 HP (that’s 11 HP more than the V6 Camaro). Now for the best part, the 2011 Mustang GT will get a new 5.0 litre V8 stunting a whoppin’ 400 horsepower and a six speed manual transmission! Other news in the Mustang’s future are an aluminum block for the Shelby GT500, and a return of the BOSS! And no the Ecoboost is not planned to be used in the Mustang. Via Left Lane News

i DON’T KNOW WHY EVERY THINKS THE NEW MUSTANG’S POWER IS BAD? YA 315 ISN’T THAT MUCH BUT THE CAMARO HAD SIX YEARS TO PREPARE FOR IT’S RELEASE AND THE CHALLENGER AND CHARGER ARE AS HEAVY AS TANKS. SO THEY NEED ALL THAT HORSEPOWER TO MOVE THE THINGS A NEW GT IS FASTER THAN THE CHARGER OR CHALLENGER IN THE QUARTERMILE AND THE CAMARO WITH ALMOST OVER 100 MORE HP AND ABOUT 80 CUBIC INCHES BARELY BEATS IT.
A 5.0 MOD MOTOR WITH 400 HP IN THE SAME CHASSIS LOOKOUT CHEVY AN DODGE BOYS BETTER PULL THAT BELT TIGHT.

I hope to see another muscle car war like the 60′s. I still think Ford wil dominate unless things like the AAR Cuda came back.

V8′s will live on, they will just make them more fuel efficient and adopt better emissions while at the same time keeping the power.

The V8 will live on cafe standards will only help it achieve better ratios. 5.0 has always been a good round number in my book.

This is good news to all hardcore Ford lovers. I just put a 4.6 liter 4 cam v8 in my 67 f100 but I would kill for the new 400 horse 5.0. This is the best motor Ford has ever made and its nice to see it come back with old school chevy ass kick’n power. Ford rules and Chevy drewels!!!!

WOW ford doesn’t have a taste for rims UGLY stuff. I wont personally think ford will be making the V8 larger after 2012. All V8 will die by 2016 when cafe standards kick in so why even bother. I will be sheer stupidity at is best.

Uh-oh, I made a mistake in my last comment. I meant to say it pulls 0.08 Gs MORE on the skidpad.

It’s a shame Ford won’t be using the Ecoboost in the base models. I think it would help sales alot. After all a 35mpg twin turbo making about 350 hp would give Ford a major advantage in the entry level pony car market. It is good to know that Ford is making a new 5.0. I’ve been following this for quite awhile and am quite pleased with the results. For all the Ford skeptics out there, Ford isn’t going to start a hp war and fail to keep up. Actually, I think they’ve done well in alot of areas. They raised the hp output on the GT500 with no need to. GM and Chrysler currently don’t have any factory built muscle cars with anywhere near the output of the Shelby. There are a few outside jobs like Hennessey that have put there touch on the Camaro and Challenger, but what I want is a 600 horse Z28 and a 6.1 Hemi that’s up to par with the current competition. I don’t think Mopar has upped the power since it was introduced. 425 was respectable then, but now it’s becoming common. Anyway, I do agree that the GT500 does need better tires.

AudiobahnV8SHO, I don’t think it’ll necessarily be lighter as it’s gaining about fifty pounds because of the increased displacement. I’m still guessing it’ll be lighter as I really don’t know how much the Mustang weighs. Ford has also been having trouble finding tires that work well with the V8 Mustangs lately, as the GT500 has tons more power than the SS but still accelerates slower and goes through the quarter mile with a slower time. I’ve heard the Mustang weighs an average of two-hundred pounds more than the Camaro. With all of that in mind, the current Mustang GT500 outhandles the current Camaro SS, pulling about.08 Gs on the skidpad.

Let me clear that one up, 4 valve SOHC, (4 per cylinder = 32 Valve). Thanks

Ahh its weird to be on here since being gone so long!
Okay to correct and draw attention to some things:
1. No such thing as a 4 valve SOHC
2. The V6 had 250Hp its going to be 315Hp so the base Mustang gained 65 Hp. The GT Mustang had 315Hp and its going to be 400Hp meaning it gained 85 Hp.
3. Sure the Camaro has 30 more HP but the thing you forget is the Mustang is lighter than the Camaro, this may mean the Mustang GT MIGHT be faster than the Camaro for the second time in its life in GT form.
4. I have also heard Brembo brakes jump on board the Track pack.
Nice article Chris!

Alex, those BOSS’ you seen weren’t real BOSS’. I seen one in a parade before, all it is is a dress-up package, like the Pony Package, or the California Special, no real power difference just looks. The BOSS I am talking about are the limited availability power monsters like the ones that dominated ’69 & ’70, like the BOSS 302, and the more powerful BOSS 429. So will the BOSS be a 5.0 with twin turbos? Very possible, so we all just have to wait till 2012.

I forgot to ask, wasn’t the Boss already back? I saw about six fifth generation Mustangs with “BOSS” graphics when I lived in Florida, some were even V6 base models. The graphics looked factory. Any ideas?

What about all those 2005 – 2009 GT owners? Gonna get owned by a V6 Stang?

troutster52, I have heard that it will be in the 400ft-lb torque region, 4 valve SOHC.

Why those cheeky bastards, eleven more horsepower? That’s just annoying as… Things. At least Chevy still has a 30 hp advantage in the V8 department.

Do we know if the new 5.0 is a new displacement for the mod motor family or something entirely different? I imagine it is a SOHC or DOHC Modular Motor like the 4.6, 5.4, etc. 6 Speed is a nice bonus too then. As if I had money to get one anyway, I guess that means I am waiting until 2020 to afford a used 2011
