What Did You Do This Weekend?
Bick66
What better way to spend one of the last nice weekends of summer than cruising in a classic convertible, right? Well, this weekend’s trip to Snoqualmie Falls left Jen and I on the side of the highway waiting for a flatbed. We had been getting sick of a dump truck that was obstructing our scenic drive, so I pulled out to pass and put the hammer down. The first downshift was nice and crisp as the Impala roared down the road on the left of the centerline, but then it suddenly lost all of its gears–no matter how high the engine revved, there was no acceleration whatsoever. Luckily we had built up enough momentum to pass the truck and coast about a quarter mile, pulling off of the two-lane blacktop into a farmer’s driveway. Turns out the new torque converter failed under the stress of the freshly-built 383 stroker motor.
How about you? What did you do this weekend?

Wow does that bring back memories! I had just finished a rebuild on a 350 engine, in my 73′ ss 2dr chevelle. after hanging a serious turn onto a fwy. cloverleaf on ramp, I stabbed the throttle on all 400 horses, and the car lunged foreward, then freely tried to overrev. Catching it in time, the motor went to idle, and I knew I had broken somthing!
In my case, it turned out to be the input spline on the turbo 350 tranz. It just sheared off!

Damn man that sucks! Were you using a stock torque converter? I got the engine pulled on my EXP turbo and power washed the engine bay. Jen’s old engine will be going in today with the original cylinder head from the EXP. Hope to have it running by friday!

I’ve raced to finish drying my car before the rain started because I anticipated not being able to wash my car for the next couple days.

Is that wrong?

I washed my car, waxed it, then proceeded to watch it rain the day after… lol

I tried to get in contact with the guy who owns the bodyshop my car is in.
Can’t really check what is he doing or not doing since the car is about 600 miles away.
It’s been there for 6 months now. He “should” be finished with it anytime soon.

Replaced the headliner in my Fiero (sunroof model) with Fleece fabric, cost: $6.66.
-
About to fabricate pull-cable popup headlight actuation for my Fiero, all worked out just gotta do the work. cost: $10.00
-
Started interior refresh, door panels done (nothing lavish like previously). Changing interior to black & OEM grey closed loop carpet.
-
Replaced broken sail panel with well, its hard to describe. Gotta take pictures and post them but waiting till I do the headlights. (the car came with no headlight motors, presently using paint rollers to hold them up which SUCKS).
