MX-5 Superlight Concept
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
With fall fast approaching, that means it’s time to once again start looking towards the auto show season and the concept cars that come with it. One of the concepts that’s already been revealed is the Mazda MX-5 superlight concept for the Frankfurt Show. As it’s name suggests, this car takes the standard MX-5 and strips away “excess” weight , doing away with things like a windshield or top. The resulting car is a unique creation that’s one my favorite concept cars in recent memory – the raw spirit of the MX-5 turned up to eleven. Hopefully it comes with a pair of leather driving gloves and some goggles.

Why I Hate Buying a New Car Part Deux
By Mike Musto
RideLust.com
When we last left off I was explaining how much I hate trying to purchase a new car from a dealership, and that I was now in the hunt for the perfect used car. Well, this hunt has proved to be an interesting one, full of ups and downs. The first order of business was deciding what type of car I was going to purchase, but to do this I needed to ask myself a few quick questions to justify my choice. I honestly believe that this is something everyone should do, as it not only makes the process easier, but in fact may open up some options that you (the purchaser) may or may not have considered.

CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot – the 1986 Buick LeSabre Grand National
By Jim Brennan
UDMan
Welcome to another installment of the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, a regular feature which aims to expand the definition of what a muscle car is, and to discover hidden treasures while doing so. Many do not even know that the Buick division of General Motors produced the Grand National on a platform other than on the Regal, but there was a very unique Grand National built in late 1985: the 1986 LeSabre Grand National. This was the debut of GM’s new full-size FWD platforms, and the two door Buick LeSabre (along with its corporate cousin, the Oldsmobile Delta 88) proved to be quite slippery in wind tunnel tests. We have had this question in this series before, but can a front wheel drive two-door really be considered a muscle car?

IDRC Finals Fontana Pt. 2
Antonio Alvendia
As I looked over our coverage on the IDRC Finals at Fontana last weekend, I thought should make a complete and separate post about some of my favorite cars out there – the old school draggers! After all, as these cars (and their owners) get on in age, the people that own these cool old school drag cars tend to bring them out less and less. Needless to say, I was more than glad to see some at IDRC Finals! Let’s take a look. Continue reading and view more photos at MotorMavens!

I don’t know what I like better, Chris Pfeiffer’s insane rooftop stunting or the looks on the faces of the office people as he brings his bike into BMW HQ…

AskMen.com Names Top Ten Cars to Have Sex In
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
In my opinion, the best car to have sex in is the closest one, but it’s clear that some are better suited for sex than others. My old Jaguar—with it’s extra-long wheelbase and super-roomy cabin—was pretty awesome, and my 1980 Chevy truck wasn’t bad either, but my Pontiac Grand Prix and Honda Accord were totally useless for anything other than driving. I was a little surprised at some of the choices on this list—A Ferrari 612 Scaglietti? A smart car?—and would have expected it to be dominated by SUVs, but that’s just my opinion. Head over to AskMen.com and check it out the rest of the vehicles that made the cut.

J.G. Pasterjak Reviews the 2009 Pontiac Solstice
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
I finally got to meet J.G. Pasterjak from the Grassroots Motorsports crew at the Nissan 370Z drive two weeks ago. In addition to handling the production and art direction for the magazines, J.G. shoots a lot of video for GRM. Here’s his recent review of the 2009 Pontiac Solstice, which includes some of his thoughts on Pontiac and GM. I thought it was pretty hilarious. Check it out.
How To Have Fun in a 1978 Ford Escort
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
Here is a video that Ken Block sent me this morning of himself and fellow rally driver Chris Atkinson having some fun in Ken’s 1978 Ford Escort. Under the hood sits a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder Millington engine that boasts 280 BHP. It also is setup with WRC-styled paddle shifting and a six-speed sequential gearbox. I think this video does an incredible job of capturing the definition of fun!

Save These Cars – Sevierville, Tennessee
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
Zach Bowman over on Autofiends tipped us off to this one: It seems Jeff Horne in Sevierville, Tennessee, had the time, the space and the means to assemble about 75 cars over the last five years – and from the looks of things, he did a good job of saving many from the crusher – but has decided he just can’t run a personal junkyard, so he’s selling ‘em all. Though it’s mostly muscle-era GM stuff, along with some ’70s F-bodies, there’s a few others in the mix as well, including a ‘77 AMX and some Thunderbirds.
Git ‘em while the gittin’s good, boys!
