Hot Or Not? DeLorean Solstice

By Jen Dunnaway

Editor

This could very well be just another one from the wild-ass rumor mill, but Jalopnik claims that the recently-reconstituted DeLorean Motor Company is seriously considering giving the Solstice a second lease on life. Under the scheme, DMC would supplement its limited output of refurbished DeLoreans with a run of DeLorean-badged Solstices (hey: they could call it the DeL Sol, get it?), and to this end, they’ve acquired a GXP for teardown and are eyeing GM’s defunct plant in Wilmington as their possible future assembly line. We’ll see, but if they do it, it’s going to need some gullwings.  Via Jalopnik.

Well, GM can either just trash everything Solstice (or Sky for that matter) and get nothing to show for their poor decision, or sell the hardware and remaining inventory and have something to show for their poor decision.

Either way, GM is making a poor decision. It’s just a matter of whether or not they’ll make two… poor decisions.

I’d like to see it but don’t see how DMC would be able to pull it off. They only sell parts for the old car and have like a total of 16 employees. Where are they gonna get the cash to make the purchase? Sell Crack? ;) lol.

Ugly some things are just better left dead and untouched.

It would look better if it were designed around the Saturn Sky

Or maybe doors that open like the Enzo, GTwildfire?! They look half gullwing half lambo.

Thinking further, the problem with stainless is that there’s probably a lot of plastic used in the Sol and the nose in stainless would probably take the most effort.

If they buy the tooling and not just spare chassis/parts (doubt there’s enough existing stock to make that worthwhile) I guess they could stamp out a stainless version. That would be sick.

Gullwings? Serious doubt about that. Maybe Lambos but I doubt that as well.

How is this the “ugly” sister when is the exact same car minus the ugly front original bumper?

Kind of random that DMC wants the Solstice but they should go for it. Will it be the all polished/stainless look too?!

that thing is the ugly little sister of the true legend… even if universal spent the money and made BTT4. I’d put a restraining order against it!

I’d guess however that GM will refuse because they won’t want the Sol to compete with a car they won’t be selling.

If they build it… people will come.
