Bullitt vs. 993: Which Would You Choose?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I’ve had a lot of people asking me about the Showroom Showdown, which stalled out over the summer. Why the lapse? Well, it seems like we ran through just about every new car combo out there, and it was getting harder and harder to pick compelling match-ups. A bunch of members also suggested that I start doing used car showdowns, since most of us car enthusiasts go used anyway. So today I’m kicking off our eBay Motors Showdown. Each week I will feature two cars plucked off eBay Motors. They’ll both be priced about the same, and they’ll both be enthusiast cars. Other than that, pretty much anything goes, as long as I think we’ll have a good battle.

This week I’m starting out with two cars I love. In fact, I waste a lot of time looking at Bullitts and 993s on eBay. 993s tend to command a bit more money than Bullitts, so for this showdown I picked out a nicely modified HPDE ready 993, which in some ways is a lot cooler than a stock car, but will probably command less money. The Bullitt in question looks to be a low mile, clean car. Both cars are fast, fun and should hold their value pretty well. So, which would you choose?

993 in a heartbeat

I would have to say Bullitt. Sure the Porsche 933 is faster but other then that it is one ugly car and cost way to much.

I`m a Mustang fan since 1964(i was born in 1955)but i`ll take the FASTER car!!..to me it`s a question of power and speed!!…i loved the
Steve Maqueen Bullitt car,but who the f…ck decided on that awfull colour!…i hate that damn dark green!!….i agere with Sofakingwetodid
and NSGrandAm …the latter oke made me laugh out loud!!!…loved you comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..i`d do the same!!!!!..how is the handling of the new Mustang??… i`ve been in a Porche 911 turbo and the power is awesome and so is the handling!…nowadays you don`t need big V8`s if
you want power!…turbos are the way to go!!!…3.8liter V6 turbocharged developes more power than 5.7 liter V8`s in Corvettes…
ie 600hp for 1st mentioned compared to 505HP of the Corvette Z06…cubic inches are not really the answer hey!

Bullit, they say Porsche owners are compensating for something.

I’d go with the 993, for three reasons:
1) That chase scene at the end of the first Bad Boys movie was so bad-ass, the Porsche just seemed to fit perfect for it.
2) The 993 is race-prepped and street legal, and goes fast in a straight line AND on the twisties.
3) If you told someone you chose the Mustang over the Porsche, they’d never let you live it down, especially if it’s at the price it is.

Um… no doubt, the 993. The stangs are just too common

I love the Bullitt, but if I had to make a choice, then it would be the 993. Remember the porche on the first Bad Boys? That’s the potential that 993 has… nuff said.

Bullitt:
Buildable, drivable, & attention getter (when tastefully modified)I love it.

Porshe:
Insurance WTF, nice car.. but can it be maintained cheaper than a house payment? I would drive it like I stole it then show it at the carshows. But its a porshe….
Every rich, paper pushing person has a stock one.

Hell, IDK
Maybe the Bullit.

I am a Ford man but I love Porsche. If it was a GT Mustang, I’d take the Porsche but its a Bullit. You can’t beat the attitude of a Bullit.

I would have to go with the 993. Everyone has a Stang. Even thought i like them a Porsche is a Porsche.

I would take the Mustang. I am a Ford guy myself and own a mustang but thats not why I choose it. I just don’t want the Porche. They are not even close to being my favorite car and they don’t handle the way I like a car to handle. Plus the bullitt would be easier to keep.

PORSCHE! PORSCHE! PORSCHE! ;)

I’d take both. the mustang would be a daily driver in the summer and the porsche would be the weekend car. Until I had enough money saved up, than I would sell the porsche and modify the mustang. Kenne bell blower, magnaflow exhaust, race tranny, clutch and flywheel, etc, etc.

Im a Chevy man so, I hate Ford and Porshe is Ghey. So Ford wins. I’d take the Bullitt.

porche because handling is way more important than straight line speed

Jnic815
Oct 14, 2009 at 8:55 pm

but torque=fun lol and Yeah it is true mustangs are overplayed but they are easy to mod cheap to own and pretty fun to drive but 70% of people out there including myself couldnt afford to maintain the porsche properly and most people would baby the porsche plus the fact that porsches are penis attachments anyway i mean how many people have you seen driving porsches that werent trying to compesate for something

90xjpunk
Oct 14, 2009 at 8:45 pm

but yes in the long run a mustang is obviously much cheaper. but the fun to drive quotient might just make that worthwhile

90xjpunk
Oct 14, 2009 at 8:43 pm

torque only launches you, its overrated once you’re already rolling. especially entering a turn and being able to keep the revs up when exiting. a smaller engine obviously revs a lot faster than a larger one, therefore its much more fun to drive/shift/keep in its sweet spot. the relationship of pedals to seat to steering wheel only further prove my point. besides, everybody and their grandmother has a mustang. and that is an understatement.

The porsche is an awesome car but You would save alot of money with the mustang cause it cost a ton of money to keep a porsche mantained and when they break, which they do alot you might as well take out a loan to fix the thing.. the 4.6 is a reliable powerplant and it has something the porsche will never have.. American made V8 powered raw torque

90xjpunk
Oct 14, 2009 at 8:11 pm

and for all you dumbasses touting how much money you’d save with the ford. look at the links (what this blog is all about in the first place) and notice that these cars are the exact same price. a 30+k year old stang with only 10k miles is worth 20 at best, while a more than double that price porsche thats 12 years old with 45+k is going for the same 20 (and is ready to race)

90xjpunk
Oct 14, 2009 at 8:06 pm

although the mustang is obviously the best handling live axle car out there (really because nobody makes them anymore)….you’ve got to be kidding me. the weight/ergonomic balance of a porsche vs a mustang? with a LOT more money in it a mustang would keep up in an autoX but these cars are both the same price. for a routine d/d and weekend track car, porsche hands down.

I’ll take a 993 over overweight American trash any day. I do got to admit the Bullitt does gain my respect for losing the spoiler.

Tough choice. Both cars would be a blast to drive. Just comes down to whether u wanna go fast in a straight line or through the curves. I’d probably take the mustang. I’ve loved the bullitt remakes since the 2005 model year, plus they’re fun as hell to drive.

993- hands down.

Tough call. The Bullitt is killer, a guy in my town has one and its soooo nice, and not to mention a collectors car. But the 993 is a driving machine. honestly, with the Mustang’s aftermarket and probably lower cost, I’d have to go Bullitt.

While I’ve talked mad shit about Porsche in the past, I’m going with the 993. This one sounds killer.
