The Rare North American Six-wheeled Van and Other Wildlife Sightings
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
Years of training have honed my senses. Tracking these creatures for days on end has instructed me on their habits and habitats. I’ve learned to discern them and their camouflaged forms from their surroundings. I know when to shoot from safe distances and when to close in for the kill. Their trails are like roads to me, and their scent is in my nostrils. This one I captured in North Adams, Massachusetts. Note its unique coloration and its variation from the established species. These have been documented before, but this particular specimen requires further study. Continue reading at Hemmings

Car Culture At Large
Without a doubt the aggressive wheel fitment trend is exploding in popularity. In fact I’d say it’s almost getting rarer to see new builds that don’t have wild wheel fitment. Even with all the “flushness” out there today, there are still some cars that stand out from the crowd. One of them is this AP2 S2000 spotted on the HellaFlush blog.
Maybe it’s the bright red paint, or maybe it’s the gleaming faces of the Enkei RPF1′s, but Damn this car looks cool.

Driving home from work, I was in the midst of an excellent day. My day at work was a pleasant hybrid of enough to do to keep busy, but not so much to be stressed. I didn’t get barked at on the phone by a customer and the day passed remarkably favorably. Commuting home from work in the outskirts of Cincinnati is about a 45 minute drive, and although I can almost completely avoid major highways and interstates, that time of day often produces some crawling stop-and-go traffic through town. I run into this often but am usually able to maintain good spirits.
Unfortunately, on this day, I spotted a series of traffic signs destined to ruin my day: Construction Ahead, Merge Left, Detour. Flashing arrows indicated which direction to merge and how to navigate this alternative route. I felt in the pit of my stomach and the core of my bones that all the nimrod drivers in the area were going converge on me at once.

Remote Control Driving: There's an App for That!
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
Even though I’m a huge James Bond fan, the movies starring Pierce Brosnan never really did it for me. There were some great scenes, to be sure, but overall I think they were a little too cheesy and gadget-laden. That said, the scene in Tomorrow Never Dies where 007 uses a mobile phone to drive his BMW 7 Series from the back seat was awesome. So when I saw that the Spirit of Berlin—which has been building a fully autonomous vehicle—had created an iPhone app to control one of their projects, I was totally intrigued. Even if you’re scared of being enslaved by the machines like I am, you have to admit this this pretty rad. Check out how just tilting the phone turns the wheel!

CarDomain Site Upgrade: We Feel Your Pain
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Hey guys. Well, it’s been almost a week since we pushed out the new version of CarDomain, and we really appreciate your patience and feedback as we work through the bugs. We’ve come a long way toward fixing all the broken stuff in the last few days, but here are a few of the remaining known issues.
Loss of friends – We lost some connections in the transfer. Please send new friend requests to anyone missing from your list.
PM issues - We are scrubbing out erroneous messages from inboxes. We probably won’t be able to restore all missing PMs, though. Sorry!
Comments missing – We are restoring comments on most pages.
Background art - We are modifying this to accept an image url.
Avatar issues – Broken avatars on the profile page are fixed. Any avatars which were updated just before the migration will be repaired today
Ratings change – Yes, there were some tweaks to the system. Look for a separate blog post on this in the next day or two. It’s a big topic!
Did we miss anything? Post more bugs or feedback in the comments below!

Nova vs. Duster: Which Would You Choose?
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
Duster owners always hate it when people say, “Nice Nova!” so I thought I’d put the two together in this week’s eBay Motors Showdown. Originally my plan to was to look for beaters, but then I found two nice “survivors”—yes, an overused term, but I think it applies fairly well to these examples. The 1972 Nova is not really an SS, and it’s unclear whether it’s wearing original paint, but it does seem to be quite clean and original. The 1973 Duster 340 seems to be a very original and well-documented one owner car. Auctions are ending very soon (and may be done by the time many of you see this blog post) and it’s unclear if either will make the reserve, but they seem to be priced pretty close. Anyway, click the links to the two auctions above and then let us know—which would you choose?

Winging It
By Ben Schaffer
The Real JDM
This array of Voltex Wings in various shapes in sizes means only one thing…HELLA DOWNFORCE! Lets bolt this rack down to a trunk of a high horsepower car, run high speed and mash the pavement into waves.
I have my 1700mm Type 4 Voltex wing sitting at home. I’m starting to wonder if I am ever going to want to install it on my S2000. As I get older I’m less into big wings on street cars. Hmm…someone should make a really cool looking plug or cap for wing holes in trunks. Something that looks special enough to be able to pull a GT wing off the car for street use and not have the car look lame with cheapo plugs in the trunk’s surface. Anyone have any good ideas?

MX-6 IMSA GTU

Car Culture At Large
A couple weeks ago when I was at the Japanese Classic Car Show in Irvine, parked alongside the classic RX7′s in Mazda’s display I spotted this wild-looking MX-6. The normal MX-6 was a front wheel drive coupe that shared a platform with the Ford Probe, but the IMSA GTU race version was a just a bit different. Continue reading at Speedhunters
