Rallycrossing: Let's Get Dirty, Baby!

By Rob Krider

Racerboy

So, you watched Travis Pastrana in his Subaru at the X Games and now you’re convinced that you can get your Mom’s Outback at least six feet off the ground if you were just given a dirt jump and the chance. Well, it’s time to put down your PS3 game controller, turn off MotorStorm, and borrow a helmet. Rallycross is the closest thing you’re probably going to get to the X games without any money or talent.

Rallycross is something YOU can do in your own ride. To learn where, cost, car preparation, adrenaline factor and how to actually win a Rallycross read the rest at Speed Sport Life.

CarDomain Gets an Engine Swap!

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Hey guys, we yanked the tired old 440 that’s been running CarDomain for the past ten years and replaced it with a brand new 6.1 Hemi. Our dev guys have been working on this project non-stop for close to three months and we just fired it up a few hours ago. So now we need your help with the shakedown. Play around on the site, and post any bugs you find in the comments below. Our developers will keep an eye on this blog post through the weekend and will be working to sort out all the issues. Thanks in advance for your dedication and patience! This new swap is gonna allow us to go much faster in the future!

Nice Fury

Cody’s 1970 Fury II popped up in the new rides list on Friday. I owned a ’70 Fury III convertible in this same color for a few years back in the 90s. Seeing this pic of the menacing front end makes me want my old car back. Wonder where it is now…

Jeep Takes on Storied Skatepark, Loses Big

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

If you’ve played Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, you’ll definitely recognize Burnside, and I think Thrasher Magazine’s headline—”What the F**k?”—sums up this image perfectly. Now, I don’t know why somebody thought it would be a good idea to take a Jeep into a skatepark, but I’m pretty sure the answer comes in a bottle or can. I actually spent a day skating Burnside a few years back—it’s in Portland, Oregon—so I’m pretty familiar with the layout, and the transitions are really steep. So I ‘m kind of confused about how this Jeep got far enough the face of pool to flip, and I’m seriously [expletive deleted] confused  about why we don’t have video of this bail.  Seriously, nobody had a video camera? Let’s hope this stupid stunt didn’t screw up the park at all, as it’s a great place that was built illegally and then later officially sanctioned by the city.  Maybe they should paint a “No 4x4s” next to the “No Bikes?” Check out four more pics after the jump.

Nissan Releases Special Edition 40th Anniversary 370Z

By Motor Authority

Motor Authority

The original Z was sold in October 1969 in Japan as the Nissan Fairlady Z and was also exported to the U.S. as the Datsun 240Z that same year. Since this year Nissan has been building and selling the newest Z, the 370Z, which is now the 40th year for the Z line of sport coupes and convertibles.

The Z car has been an overwhelming success for Nissan, with more than 1,685,000 models in five different generations being sold over that time. Nissan is now celebrating the 40th anniversary milestone with the launch of a special edition 370z Coupe that goes on sale next spring (the first Datsun 240Z actually went on sale in the U.S. on October 22 1969).

The special edition model is based on the Touring spec of the regular 370Z and comes with a six-speed manual transmission and Nissan’s nifty Synchro-Rev automatic rev-matching function. The car also gets a limited-slip differential, bigger brakes than the regular model and 19-inch Rays forged wheels. Special touches include red leather trim, red stitching throughout the cabin and a number of commemorative plaques. Finally, the car’s exterior is also finished in a unique “40th Quartz” paint scheme. Pricing will be revealed closer to its arrival at dealerships across the country next spring.

993 Kills the Bullitt on CarDomain

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

The Porsche dominated our first eBay Motors Showdown. I guess that shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, though of course, as many people pointed out, the Bullitt will be much cheaper to own and mod over the year. Still, used 911s are pretty tempting these days, and the 993 is many people’s favorite air-cooled Porsche.

Anyway, I think we’re gonna have some fun with these eBay Motors Showdowns. Again, anything goes as long as the prices are fairly close and it seems like a fair fight. If you come across any cool auctions or have any suggestions for future match-ups, shoot me an e-mail or leave a comment below.
