Hydrogen Peroxide Powered Race Car

By Michael Berenis

Tampa Sports Car Examiner

Using hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) to power vehicles is quickly catching on around drag strips located throughout the country. The high amount of power and relatively low cost of building  a H2O2 rocket propelled vehicle make them very attractive. Sponsors love these vehicles because of the unique display and sound created upon releasing the thrust held within.

The H2O2 powered vehicle works on the basics similar to H2O2 rockets of WWII. There is a flood of hydrogen peroxide into a combustion chamber filled with silver or platinum screens that act as a catalyst. When they come into contact with this catalyst, a chemical reaction occurs releasing the energy out the back of the vehicle with major amounts of thrust.

The byproducts of H2O2 vehicles are only oxygen, and water because the chemical reaction effectively splits the extra oxygen molecule off of H2O resulting in thermal energy and thrust in a pollution free manner. Read more about the H2O2 powered cars at  Tampa Sports Car Examiner!

Zamboni Trouble

By David Wallens

Grassroots Motorsports

After posting the fastest overall time during the autocross phase of competition, the Zamboni pilots of the SCCA’s Eastern Tennessee Region had high hopes for a great finish overall. They probably didn’t plan on blowing out the differential, but thankfully posted some solid times before it happened. We’re getting closer to having the final results for the event, and we’ll have them up online as quickly as possible.

Dirt E30

By David Wallens

Grassroots Motorsports

The Dirt E30 team turned a lot of heads on the autocross course; their wicked looking box-flared BMW was fast enough to capture second overall on the autocross course. They were ever so slightly behind the LoCost-based Zamboni from Tennessee. Since both cars are well dressed and should have comparable Concours scores, the drag racing event will be one to watch.

Ken Griffey Jr.'s Ride

By Rob Einaudi

I’m a pretty big Griffey fan—I watched him hit a three run home run against the Yankees just two weeks ago—but I’m not sure I’m a fan of his Bentley Continental GT. What do you think? Via Celebrity Cars Blog

Caption Contest: Last Week's Winner!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Sorry this is coming in late. On Wednesday, Nissan brought me down to San Diego to drive the Versa, Sentra, Altima and Maxima, and between the gorgeous train ride, an awesome welcome dinner and a serious amount of free booze, I totally forgot about the old Caption Contest. I’ll have a full report on the Nissan trip early next week, but for now, I need to announce last week’s winner. As satty12 mentioned, I had my work cut out for me, but after some careful consideration, I decided to go with fatratmatt, who came up with;  “Honey I need to wash the Jeep… Where’s the Round Up?” Congrats man! Tune in, um, today for the next installment of our freakishly popular Caption Contest!

Sullivan Racing

By David Wallens

Grassroots Motorsports

We applaud any Challenge entry, whether they’re fast, slow, or in between. We even like the ugly ones, and this particular entry from Sullivan Racing is a good example of the “ugly” breed. Ugly as it may be, it looks awfully light, so we’ll have to see if the car can overcome a dismal concours score. Get the most recent updates at Grassroots Motorsports
