IROC vs. 5.0: Too Close to Call!

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

This week’s ebay Motors Showdown really hit a chord with people. Even with our ongoing commenting issues (now even I can’t comment, and yes, we are working on it) we got a HUGE response on this one. At first it looked like the IROC was gonna walk away with it, but then the Fox body rallied, and in the end this one is just too close to call!

Looks like the 1988 Camaro IROC Z-28 got bid up to $4,550 with the reserve still not met before time ran out. The 1989 Mustang GT auction still has three days to go, with the bid currently at $2,550. But any way you look at it, both of these cars offer a big bang for the buck. And we’ll definitely run more Mustang vs. Camaro shoot outs in the future, cause they are a of of fun!

I’m undeniably a GM dude, but I really like this tie. I do!
-
I think it’s awesome in fact.
-
Those who prefer the ‘Stang deserve respect, just as those of us who prefer the Camaro or Firebird do.
-
I’ve considered and checked out some stangs in the past when looking to buy. I didn’t bite bu won’t rule anything out for the future. I was just lured more by the 4th gen, F bodies. I think they handle better but I’m not bashin’.
-
This tie is anything but a disappointment.

I wouldn’t mind beating the crap out of the 5.0 on a track. But I want a good looking car to drive around in during summer. IROC ftw. Just tune it up a bit and its fine.

MUSTANG FTW! That 3rd gen Camaro was SUPER SLOW.

Camaro has the lower mileage, yet the Mustang has been updated. Tough decision, but I’d go for the IROC.

The long production run and numerous aftermarket suppliers has made the 5.0 the “57 Chevy” of the current era. Faster than the auto only 350 IROC, lighter and cheaper. How can you not chose the Mustang.

I was faced with this same decision a few years ago… I just decided to go with both of them! Check my profile for the pix and info.
