From experience we all know that from a distance it's hard to gage the on coming traffics speed. You never know how fast till they zip by you. From a distance it never seems that fast. but 70-90+ mph happends in a blur. from the kids perspective they probably thought they could make the turn. Now had the cop been going the speed limit they would have made it, because the cop would not have been there. Just look at the speed of the Cop car that was taping the video. At that speed the kids would have made the turn. I bet the Cop in the other car was think this when the cop passed..."What the hell?"

wow is all i can say. i live no more than 5 miles from the crash site and both of the kids went to school with me. they werent full blown drunk either, only a few bp games deep. the cop is totaly at fault and the death of these kids could have completely been avoided. im 16 and just got my permit and shit like this scares me. cops around here are careless and constantly acting acting above the law.

You wanna get even more pissed? Seriously, use this link for an even more angering occurrence:
-
http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2009/06/nj_state_trooper_cleared_of_ch.html
-
Cops are people, just like the rest of us. They are trained but this does NOT give them superhuman abilities, and their training does not mean in any way that those around them will react any differently than if they were ordinary citizens... especially when they are moving at high rates of speed where they should not.
-
I have the utmost respect for first-responders. I can't and don't even want to imagine some of the things they encounter while on duty. Seriously, the things they have to deal with can mentally break down most of us is we were to witness these things or their aftermath. This, however does not absolve them of their responsibility to control their vehicles in a reasonable manner, especially when their lights and sirens are not being used. A car and the laws of physics don't give a rat's ass who you are and EVERYONE should be held EQUALLY accountable for their judgement behind the wheel.
-
The trooper involved in the incident I linked above was cleared of responsibility for having sped through an intersection with no lights or siren turned on, killing two girls. He was speeding up to catch a speeder. If the speeder had killed them, he would surely have been treated differently by the judge. Is that right?
-
First responders should be responding to disasters, not recklessly creating them.

That is pretty much what cops do around here (CT). They're constantly speeding, dipping in and out of traffic, driving in breakdowns without their lights on. Because they're in a police car they are completely above the law at all times. This time it bit them back. We all felt like it was a matter of time before someone got hit by one of them. Here it is.

Fault is not all on him, another thing that is happening all of the time is folks trying to make a left at the last possible second when they don't have the right-of-way, even when the road is completely empty immediately behind you.

CT and New England in general are not the easiest places to drive in. You always have to be on your toes driving, but make it double-duty around here.

Sorry for the parents that lost thier children. But they made a safe turn the fact that the cop was going 94 mph and passing on the right with no emergency he should be charged with murder. If a civilian was going that fast and killed two people they would be up on charges of murder as well as countless moving violations. Hang him.

Not much to say about this... I fell sorry for all the families involved... i heard the kids were drunk, but the officer still shouldnt have been speeding like that but the kids shouldn't have turned in front of him fault is 50/50.. but the cop should still go to jail the length of time should be pending on weather the kids were drunk and the officers reputation.

I'm not defending. This just proves that cops are fallible too. This guy should be charged with third degree murder, not manslaughter. He knew he was breaking the law by not using lights or siren and driving well above the speed limit. He knew from defensive and pursuit drivers training that he was not safely operating a two ton vehicle at well above the safety of the conditions of the road. It might have been a highway, but it was in a populated area with buildings and cross traffic. He as an Officer was trained to understand these things, therefore, he should be charged with murder.

I wonder why he was driving so fast. I wonder why the other officer did not immediatly attempt a pursuit. I wonder ...I wonder alot about this...
