Hemmings Find of the Day – 1956 Studebaker

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

To round out this Stude-themed week on the blog (yeah, I totally planned that), let’s go digging for one of South Bend’s finest for the Hemmings Find of the Day. Of the 35 Studebakers on Hemmings.com right now, perhaps the most eye-catching one is this creamsicle 1956 Pelham station wagon, offered out of Houston, Texas, for $49,900. Wild Blown Hemi Powered Street Legal Bantam Altered on eBay

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

If you’re thinking what we’re thinking, we share the same mental illness. Our thought process when we laid eyes on this wild hunk of iron jumped directly to Hot Rod’s Drag Week. It would most likely be miserable in many respects, but pulling off the trip in this car would certainly be something to tell the grandkids about. This is really a drag car, a fiberglass bodied altered with a passenger seat. Oh, and a blown Hemi.

The car is currently registered and driven in Iowa. That may be the only state in the Union that would allow something like this to carry license plates, with the exception of Michigan which is like lawless in that department. If you attempted to operate this on the streets of Massachusetts, you’d likely be shot on site.

The aluminum-headed 392 Hemi is stroked and blown via a 6-71 Littlefield huffer. The chassis is all chrome-moly and features a four-link rear suspension and torsion bars up front. It is wild beyond description. The “real” flame paint job is a violation, but a couple of rattle cans could fixt that.

Water Crossings

By Ben Schaffer

The Real JDM

As a kid, your natural inclination when you see a puddle is to jump in it. Perhaps this same primal desire is the reason I particularly enjoy water crossings in various rally events. I wish there was some deep philosophical insight into life that I could provide here. Instead, I’m just going to share some images of this phenomenon which ranks right up there with jumps, opposite lock and left foot braking on the list of rally’s charms. A Visit to Shelby Automotive

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

With the Mustang, Ford is in possession of a very valuable property: a modern car with soul and character. Think about it: the vast majority of car companies these days make all of their models with uniform styling features. It’s even hard to distinguish between different cars of the same class these days.

It’s for this reason I’ve developed a bit of a soft spot for this retro macho machine, especially the hotted up versions that companies like Shelby and now RTR are putting out. The Mustang is a car that hasn’t forgotten what it’s about and is the only pony car in the US which has had a continuous production line back to the 1960s.

I also love driving Mustangs… I have to admit it. The raw experience appeals to the masculine side of my personality. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Daytona in the Barn, and Two Hemi Chargers, and One V Code 70 Charger: Barn One

By Ryan Brutt

HemiPwr70

What started out as a terrible weekend, ended up as a not so terrible weekend. A friend of mine’s uncle had passed away and I had known him for many years. So I would be attending his funeral on Sunday, November 9th. I planned on spending the weekend out there, so I knew I couldn’t help the family in Saturday, why not go out and hunt for cars… Oh boy did that thought snowball.

I made a post about me heading to Bloomington, IL on www.moparts.com forums. Two members from down there, Shad and Scott both told me that they would like to meet up and show me some of the stuff they knew about lying around. They didn’t get into specifics, though.

I drove down Friday night, so I could meet up with the guys on Saturday. That was a long drive at night. The Challenger did fine, and I got on the girl a bit. But still I was glad to plunker down in my hotel room for the night.

Spyker's New Aileron: Bold, Beauitful and Dead Sexy

By Mike Musto

RideLust.com

For those of you out there who have never heard of Spyker then please let this be your introduction. Spyker is a small auto manufacturer from Holland whose sole intent is to produce some of the most beautiful, best performing and unique automobiles on the planet. A few weeks ago I got a call from Vinny Russo, Spyker’s Dealer Relations Manager asking me if I wanted to participate in a track test of Spyker’s new Aileron up at Monticello Raceway in Monticello, New York. I instantly jumped at the chance.

Lexus LF-Amazing

By Antonio Alvendia

Antonio Alvendia

As you might imagine, everyone who’s anyone in the automotive industry was at the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas last week. While many pessimists have complained that this year’s show was smaller than any other SEMA in recent years, there were quite a few notable announcements, releases and debuts this year. (And those who did show up to the show were serious about doing business, not just a bunch of useless tire kickers.)

While there was much on the news front in terms of debuts, to be honest, there was nothing that excited me personally more than the new Lexus LF-A. I might be a bit jaded, as I am a Toyota man. My first car was a Toyota, and I’ve owned many many different types of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in my life; I’ve lost count of the actual number, but if you figure that I currently own 6 Toyota/Lexus vehicles, then I’m pretty sure the total number is somewhere around twenty. Yup, TWENTY! So maybe I do have a slight personal slant towards the Lexus brand, but regardless, I think the new LF-A that Lexus debuted at SEMA is nothing short of amazing.

Sure, there are skeptics out there who complain that the LF-A hasn’t yet beat an R35 Nissan GT-R’s record at the Nurburgring. There are also people out there who also say there are a lot of other cars they would rather buy for the LF-A’s hefty $375K price tag. Sure it’s pricey. And yes, maybe the R35 GTR can currently beat it around Nordschleife. However, in my mind, there’s just no denying how outstandingly bad ass the LF-A is. Countach Beats the 512 Boxer on CarDomain

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I guess this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, but the 1987 Lamborghini Countach handily beat the 1984 Ferrari 512 BBi in this week’s eBay Motors Showdown. I really admire the Countach, but for a car to own and drive, I would definitely go with the Boxer, which is one of my favorite Ferraris of all time. Stay tuned for another match up next week, and if you have any suggestions for future eBay Motors Showdowns, please leave them in the comments below!
