Mr. Angry's Gift Giving Advice for the Holidays

By Mike Musto

As a car person, you must realize how important the holidays are for us, as it’s the one time of year that we can get what we want (if you follow the rules) and not feel guilty about it. For example, you as the gift giver may think that the $100 gift card to the local mall is wonderful. You’re thinking, “This is a perfect gift, my special someone can go out and get some socks, a shirt and maybe some pants.” Well… you’d be wrong. This is in fact a terrible gift and one that will ruin our entire holiday.

To buy for a car person, you need to think like a car person and look at what they do. For example, if your car person is constantly changing their oil and transmission fluid, putting in windshield wiper fluid, or washing their cars in the driveway, then a gift card from places like AutoZone, Pep Boys, NAPA or Advanced Auto Parts may be for them. Here they can buy oil and filters, transmission fluid, quick fix it parts like brake pads, wiper blades and air filters. Any car guy can use stuff from these places and will appreciate not having to pay for these wear items.

If you see your car person constantly under the car, pulling out engines or transmissions, yanking wheels on and off then you may want to get them something from a good performance parts warehouse like Jegs or Summit Racing. Here they can get everything from jacks and jack stands, engine blocks, carburetors, hoses and fittings… you name it, they can get it here.

Is your car person into racing? Are they going to the race track every weekend? If so then get them something from a site like Safe Racer.com or Racer Wholesale. Here they can find anything and everything related to safety equipment for themselves and their car. Maybe they need a new helmet or driving suit or possibly a new set of gloves, if so then this is the place for them. Tires and wheels are other items that all car people need, for these try out sites like Tirerack.com or DiscountTireDirect.com. They have tire and wheel combo packages and will ship anywhere you’d like.

My point is this: every car guy or gal who is into cars is INTO CARS. We eat, sleep and breath them. We know exactly what we want, what we need, when we need it and where to get it. So if you have a special someone in your life that loves these four-wheeled machines like we do, and you want to get them something that they’ll really love, then go back and re-read the above. I promise you that you’ll be a rock star on that special day. BTW… all of the above applies to birthdays, any holiday, all days of the week, daytime and nighttime, as well as every hour of every day pertaining, but not limited to, the known universe.

Summit Racing loves me, I’ve already ordered a few giftcards from them. However I learned that it doesn’t go over with non gear heads so well.

The best Christmas I ever had was 1979. I had a 73 Dodge Challenger with a 340. I built an earlier 340 motor to about 450HP, Had the trans built w/ a 3500 stall converter etc. Put 4:56′s in the rear. It would not hook for sh*t. On Christmas morning I opened a HUGE present from my brother, A complete ladder bar set up and 2 new slicks. He was not into cars either. I asked why he got me that stuff. He said “well, that’s what you need isn’t it?

I always get clothes for Christmas. I have a closet full of Clothes, literally from floor to ceiling it’s just jammed in there. I couldn’t wear it all if I tried. What I don’t have is injectors, FMIC piping, and some RP Ice coolant. Maybe Santa will bring me what I need this year to get my Subaru rebuild complete!! Great article! :)
