2009 LA Auto Show: 2011 305HP V6 Mustang
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
There are plenty of enthusiasts that sneer at the V6 Mustangs, and consider them to be just a lamer version of the GT. But the 2011 V6 Mustang will come stock with a burly 305HP and 280ft-lbs of torque—which is within spitting distance of the current GT. Ford also believes the new Pony will get 30MPG on the freeway, which would make it the most fuel efficient car in its class. Any way you look at it, that’s pretty impressive. The Blue Oval had two 2011 Mustang Club of America Editions in its booth at the show, a red convertible and the slick silver version below. The sheet metal is the same as the current gen, but the special edition models feature a billet grill, tape stripes (absent on the silver coupe), special badging, and—um, finally—body-colored mirrors. Check out some pics and walk-around videos after the jump.

OK, FUCK V6 ON NEW MUSCLE CARS. WHY NOT JUST DROP A SMALL V8 IN SO AT LEAST IT SOUNDS BEEFY WITH EXHAUST. PERHAPS A REMAKE OF THE OLD 289?

I remember back in ’04, a GT had 260 hp. Then ’05 rolled around and that figure became the baseline for the V6. Both models gained 40 horses. Glad to see that they’re doing that again. There’s alot of interest gaining out there for the sixes. Shelby just came out with a limited edition Terlingua Mustang powered by a 350 hp V6. I heard he chose the six to shed some weight and make it handle better since it’s offered as a part time track car. I’m still a V8 guy when it comes to pony cars, but I taking more notice of the base models now too. I just wish Ford would cram the 265hp twin turbo Ecoboost into the Stang, but I can understand that they don’t want to embarass the current GT. Come 2011 though, the new 5.0 should be out….

Both are absolutely beautiful, but I would definitely take the silver one.
