Canadian Cop Gets Nailed for Street Racing

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Street racing is a strong crime for a police officer, but in Canada, any traffic violation involving 50 kph (31 mph) over the speed limit brings the charge of street racing. That law went into place in 2007, and more than 15,000 people have been charged with street racing since then. In this case, an Ontario Provincial Police office was reportedly going 157 kph (97 mph) in an 80 kph (55 mph) zone when he ran a stop sign and crashed. He was on duty, but not on a call. Surprisingly, the officer remains on duty but can’t drive for 7 days. Read the full story at The Windsor Star.

Hey vince_lazio, The law here in canada is that if you are caught going 50 km or 30 miles over the speed limit you get your car towed and impounded for a week causeing you to pay the impound fees, on top of that you are charged a 2000 dollar fine and licence suspended for at least a week. I live in the town where this happened and i have a couple budiies that got nailed for the same charger and he is not being held to a higher standard… as far as i know.

Police really need to learn that the laws apply to them the same as to an ordinary citizen. Too many officers get away with far too much and it makes the entire force look bad. If they would learn to discipline their own ranks appropriatly they might get better respect.

Personally, I find this to be superficial compared to the cop speeding 94mph in CT without emergency lights on and crashing into the two teens killing them. That was realy sad, this Canada cop is just stupid. He’s just lucky he didn’t kill anyone.

in Ontario street racing is a criminal offense, not only a driving violation. Same as a D.U.I. I live in new brunswick, though going 50 over the posted limit is considered street racing it’s only a driving violation, unless because of it you cause any damage, injuries, etc. I did a lot of research on street racing, where i’m from it’s a minimum of 600$ fine and at least 3 points off your license. I spent a lot of time researching it when i was charged for it following my buddy on the highway doing about 160 in a 100. Though i got out of it because the cop failed to fill out the ticket properly, failed to fill out the paper work, and failed to show up to court. A lot of luck there lol. Then i got it again running a civic and hit 104 in a 50, got out with a warning.

I think he should’ve gotten fired. Some cops just don’t deserve the badge. He was abusing of his power. If he hadn’t crashed nothing would’ve happened, and then he crashes and the punishment is ridiculous. I bet if that was a civilian he would’ve gotten a few months in prison at least.

its stories like this that get me reallyyyyyyyyy pissed. you might remember a previous blog post about the cop in ct going 94 and crashing into a turning car. that happened not 5 miles from my house and i feel that it is just ridiculous to know that cops can be even more reckless drivers than us ordinary citizens.
