I think this is great, there are maybe a handful of rides on here that actually deserve 1*. Anyone who actually works on their ride deserves an honest opinion of what the ride is rated as. We are all car guys NOT pre school kids, there is no need to down grade a ride just for the hell of it, maybe it’s not your cup of tea BUT people should appreciate the effort. Alot of people are chewing out other people for a 1* rating, just stop the arguing, give 1* back and leave it at that, all the haters will soon find out when they get 1* for their ride that people don’t deserve it.

Admins: In regards to banning bad members, ratings, … You guys are doing a good job maintaining order with all the traffic you get. I don’t know how you do it. A small group keeping control over thousands of people. It’s a wonder the site isn’t total chaos and anarchy! There are 700,000 rides listed. Sure, not all of them are active anymore, but this site is busy! So those of you who want to bitch… lay off. They are doing the best they can.

I highly doubt cardomain would ever be like myspace or facebook. Just because cardomain is oriented around being a site for automotive enthusiasts doesn’t mean that there shouldn’t be some type of social networking involved. Afterall, vehicles are owned by people, and vehicles don’t post their own pictures except Kitt, the car from Christine, and whatever cars Chuck Norris owns. But yeah, cardomain is as much of an enthusiast’s site as it ever was. People have just become greedy and want their rides noticed and are willing to step all over other worthy rides to be on top.

Here’s what I say about the rating system. There should be ONE understanding of it’s existence. To me, the existence of the rating system should be to rate someone’s hard work, and nothing else. Hard work has no bias, it only has measure. But to some people like me, hard work should be recognized regardless of how hard the work is.

Other people see the rating system as a means of rating the outcome of hard work, which is the ride. I see two big problems with that. One is bias. So many people love one style of enthusiasm, yet dislike another. Another is competition. When people compete, then winning is what means everything, even if it includes selfishly and thoughtlessly booting everyone else to the bottom.
.
In my eyes, cardomain is a site for enthusiasts. It’s a site for enjoyment and resource for everyone, not just for F150 owners, or Civic owners, or Eclipse owners, or Impala owners, but for EVERYONE. The site just happens to allow for the criticism of vehicles bases on peoples’ reasons, and in mathematical calculations made in the site’s statements places these vehicles in order of the highest-star average on top and the lowest-star average on the bottom.

I guess what I would do with the rating system is keep it simple. Make it so no one can show bias. Make it so no one can be negative. Make it so the only other option would be to hit the back button on the viewer’s screen. Make it so there’s one positive thing, like a button that says “I like this ride!!” or a double thumbs up button.

As for Showoff Of The Week, I think that should be rectified as well because there have been some rides that (honestly speaking) deserve it less than others. I know my ride is far from showoff quality, but I think those who deserve that title are those who have done full classic restorations, full performance modifications, or a bunch of mods done in a 2 car garage with basic garage tools. I would keep the “Nominate for Showoff Of The Week” button on everyone’s page, but I’d put the top 5 or 10 in a public vote, and the one who recieves the most votes gets SOTW, and the other nominees aren’t excluded from the next week. I know a system like that may anger those who see their rides a step away from being SOTW, but at least then the public can choose who really should get it. I think everyone can agree the past few showoffs didn’t deserve it as much as others. That’s not saying those rides sucked, by no means.

Again, great job with the new rating change CarDomain! Of course it will cause drama at first, but it will let people know that no one can hide behind their computers anymore. Hopefully people will become more honest and modest with other peoples’ rides.

I say remove it. It’s creating too much animosity. All I see on ride pages page is messages about “you gave me one star, blah blah” And I am getting it myself, and no one wants to be honest about it. Or better yet, do away with one star, or make someone leave a comment about why they rated the way they did. And do away with being able to rate unless you have a ride page up. You created a monster with this new feature!

I agree with the comments that this will feature will create a new level of selfishness on CarDomain. I don’t think it’ll be all-out warfare, but just the fact that you can see who rated you one star, will send most people who received that star out to give that other person a one as well. I just think this will create animosity amongst some members. Sure it’s great to see who the few people are that give everyone a low rating to boost their own car’s standing, but that’s the only real benefit: to see who’s trying to sabotage. Other than that, people will treat fellow members’ cars with ratings reflecting those that they were given. Eye for an eye, rather than what they really think of the vehicle itself.

And back on the ratings… I am getting sick of people lying about it too. Like these “hemiplus” and “fluff1111″. Sends me a PM saying he never even looked at my rides, yet somehow they all have 1 stars from him. Then he goes on my Nissan’s page and lies WHILE GIVING IT ONE STAR… WTF?!

Wow simply amazing! I found a couple of ratings that had me going WTF…so I kicked their lying ass off of my friends list! But I will say 97% of the rate givers were truthful and kind.
I think it’s much better just to move on and say nothing and no rating, keep the peace!
Interesting fact: other than the 2 liars I booted, the other low raters don’t even have a freaking car…what gives? Kick their want a car ass to the curb…go back to the public transportation realm where you belong…freaking ghetto mongers!

The only reason people “attack” others or give bad ratings or comments is because they are either jealous or they have nothing better to do. Honestly, who cares what most of the CD people think. Sure it is always nice to hear the good comments. But you can’t take the bad ones to heart. If you ignore them, they will go away. These people enjoy conflict, so the more you banter back and forth and let those negative remarks bother you, the more people are going to keep this up.

It would be nice to get rid of all the posers, fake accounts and a$$holes, but it will never happen. So life will go on. Don’t take it to heart with the ratings. If you love your ride, that is all that really matters. A bunch of people you will never meet really have no say.

The CD community is supposed to be a fun place to chat with all the other gear heads, and you are always going to get the a$$holes. So just ignore them, delete there comments, who cares what your car rating is, it is just a star on a website (big deal). Enjoy your rides, makes some friends and keep on truckin!

It is obvious when someone has 5 categories to rate, and they are all single stars. So, please get your facts straight please. All I merely did, was point out the technical issues with the site. Thanks to phattacorider for understanding the long term goal with this feature release. We knew the short term outlook would involve clean-up and uproar but long term we’ll have a more “true” rating setup where users don’t run around negatively rating for personal gain.

I do believe that people have a right to say whatever they want, but I also believe that people have an obligation to shut the hell up when they can’t say something nice, and giving 1 star is as bad as it comes. Some people say that it’s just a star rating, it means nothing. To a lot of us, who have put our hearts and souls into our whips, that’s a huge slap in the face. That would be like someone telling a parent that they are doing a horrible job raising their kid.

I wouldn’t blame anyone for being spiteful and giving 1 star to anyone who only gave them 1 star. I can say that personally I won’t stoop myself to their level, but for anyone else who needs vengeance, I can’t see a rational reason to get mad at them. There are users like white-944 and madmods who praise their own ride, and put down everyone elses’. People like them who spend so much time and effort on their cars should at least learn to appreciate the work other people do to their own rides. I pity them, I really do.

But again, to cardomain, you guys did good with this move. Sure it may bring about the drama, for now, but it will change some people for the better in the long run. A. Have the same car but want to boost their own spot.
B. Have no car
C. Will hate in retaliation.

Thanks for posting the video and we did identify the problem you are reporting. In your case your newer votes were being blocked because they were registering from the same IP. This was new functionality added last week so that any repetitive votes from the same IP would not be counted. In this case we need to tune the statement so that we still allowed the updating of rating votes but not fraudulent repetitive votes from any number of accounts.

Hope this helps you understand what you were seeing in the video.

I agree with XTZTwinTurbo. There are some issues with the ratings system. Sometimes you rank 5 stars, yet it shows one, or none. And still need to not allow fakers to vote. AND HOW ABOUT DELETING VOTES AND COMMENTS FROM BANNED MEMBERS? And get rid of the fakes. I had one douchebag with 10 accounts: hummaguy1-10, rank me 1 star 10 times. WTF?! That shit needs to be stopped. I don’t mind if some one doesn’t like something I have done, different people have different tastes, but giving a 1 star rating is bullshit. I can definitely see pros AND CONS with letting others see who rated them what. Then you have dummies like me who look at your ride, post a comment on it, then FORGET to rate, I do that all the time. THEN THERE IS STILL THE ISSUE I AND OTHERS STILL CAN’T GET OUR RATINGS CATEGORIES BACK AFTER THE LAST PROBLEM!

RE: XTZTwinTurbo – Can you explain what you are seeing where you think 5 star votes are not registering? The display of the votes is rendered based on your row number in the registration where the first user in the system is one and the last user in the system is the newest user. There for you are more likely to see the ratings of veteran members on page one of your ratings and newer user’s ratings on your last page. The layout will be changing as time goes on and it will be more apparent when the rating was left.

My last rant to the cardomain community. Personally, I look at cardomain as a site for automotive enthusiasts, not for contendors to put other peoples’ rides down. To me, a true automotive enthusiast knows no automotive discrimination. It shouldn’t matter what style someone prefers, whether it be offroader, tuner, street scene, anything. What should matter is the hard work, effort, and dedication someone puts into their ride. With that being said, some people should carefully consider why they even bother rating 1 star. I busted my ass with the things I’ve done with my truck, and I did it all for me. But for someone to rate me poorly is a slap in the face, and I interpret that as it’s shitty work. I don’t care if you lift a finger and break your back for your ride, if you appreciate it and busted your skull for it, it deserves all the credit in the world, not some 1 str rating that some jerkoff gave because they think it’s “rice”.

Bad ratings are also coming from member ID: Vanaholic, he says 5 star ride, and then it turns out he gives you 1 star because he wants to feel better about himself.

The best thing to do would be to totally remove the ratings scale. Who really give a crap. It isn’t very accurate anyways. There are 100K restored rides rated the same as a $2500 ride.

I agree with all of the people out there that think this is a good idea.

I also wanna take the time to apologize to anyone that I may not have rated. I chalk it up partially to getting sidetracked while working (I work at home a lot) or if I’m checking out the profile pages (some people have many, many pages) and completely forgetting to rate after.

I dig all cars on this site cause like so many of you have said ” you build it for you, not for the masses.” I follow this same line of thinking as well. Some people probably don’t think my Autobot I built to go along with my Transformers theme is cool … but I built it and modded the car, and robot, for me.

So to all those that I forgot about or got lazy and never rated I will make amends starting now to go back and 5 star rate you.

No matter where you go, there will be mountains of people who don’t like your rides. You kids need to understand where the “drama” comes from, and it’s not coming from cardomain. It comes from those ruthless little idiots out there who have nothing to do than to make people feel bad about the hard work and joy they put into modding their rides simply because they want the attention or hate their lives. I just went and gave 1 star to a couple of people (for the first time in over 4 years being on the site) who gave me 1 star and now that I think about it, I’m not going to stoop myself to their level. People will get mad for now that 1 stars are being given, but I think this will better people because now they will think twice before giving a low rating (to a ride that someone actually takes pride in) because now they can’t hide behind their computer. I’ve always believed if I can’t say something nice, then I better just shut the hell up. Maybe other people will think the same thing with this new cardomain move.

Great move cardomain! I was scrolling through some of my stars and I noticed people who have no rides posted are leaving me 1*. I do believe in freedom of speech, I’ve seen users with decent rides rate me a 1*, but honestly what matters to me is how I feel, not some idiot taking advantage of the first amendment feels. And I really think people can’t go and rate and comment without having a ride to rate and comment back. I’m honestly sick of losers who register just to talk shit, and you can’t say a damn word to them.

Can ANYONE help me get the rest of my ratings back for my truck? Before the big change I had “overall”, “exterior”, “DUB”, “interior”, and “wheels/tires”. Now all I have is overall. I click on them putting a check in the box, but apparently it doesn’t save.

I knew this would create a lot of fighting. I noticed when I checked my rating page, about half of the people if not more happened to give me a 1 star rating on my ride. I have never given anybody a 1 star rating. If I like it, I would give you 5 stars and if I didn’t like it, I would just go back to the home page and leave it as is. But because of all of this, I have decided to leave car domain and go to that other site. So goodbye everyone.

This is going to cause nothing but trouble, The best thing to do would be to get rid of the fake accounts. There is a lot of accounts that do not even have any rides. Most of them you can tell are fake accounts from other people that already have rides. They just don’t want a bad rating because it makes them cry, so they need to make a fake account to get back at the haters. The rating thing should probably be tossed out anyways. Comments are good enough.

I must say I really care less also what my star rating is. Look Mommy I have 4 1/2 stars. With that being said out of curiosity I went threw my ratings. I notice the people who are giving 1 stars are:
A. people who have no rides.
B. people w/ a simular car trying to make their POS look better.
C. People just being straight up Haters.

With that being said I feel most of you feel the same way.

I have mixed views on this. I know I’ve given 1* ratings to many nonexistent rides, what I mean is profiles with no vehicle or just one badass photo, but noting said about the ride because they likely don’t own said car. I can only assume I’m going to be getting a fair amount of 1* ratings on my ride(s) now. Granted I don’t feel they deserve 5*s, but neither do they deserve just 1*. I don’t think I’ve said I’ve given a rating I didn’t give, but now that this “see who rated you what” exists, I better double check. If by chance I did, I know for a fact it wasn’t 1* when I said 5*’s, but it could be 3 when I said 4 or 4 when I said 5 by mistake or because I had a change in mind. Again, now I need to double check so no one gets upset because a falsely said rated given. However, I do and will always feel that someone should have a ride themselves with at least a few photos before they can give a rating.

OK, I can tell this is going to be a bad idea after seeing THIS post in my guestbook. I remember this truck, it’s a very nice looking resto on a work truck, and I told him so. AND I RATED IT FIVE STARS, but your ratings are showing BS, I looked at what I gave, it was 1 star, five minutes later after a refresh, IT SHOWS FIVE. And I didn’t mess with it.

I find this to be a horrible idea. I have always found CarDomain to be a friendly place; however, this is going to change. There is going to be so much drama and conflict caused by this. I honestly don’t think you all have thought this through. If a car truely looks like crap and you give it a one star rating, the person will then come to you and give you a one star rating for their own personal revenge. Terrible addition to the site.

I tell you what. This feature is more meaningful than I expected. It’s not the low scores and whatnot I’ll dwell on, I won’t. People have their motivations and it shows in what they rate and that’s on them but life is short.

What’s really meaningful, seriously, is seeing people who you haven’t been in touch with for months or longer having dropped by to see what’s up and drop some stars your way. Their presence is evident, even if they didn’t have anything to comment.

I just had a lot of fun paying back people with one star. In many cases, I changed the rating I gave THEM from a five to a one.

Cardomain doesn’t specifiy whether a vehicle has to be (Stock), (Slightly Modified), (Highly Modified) or someone that has taken a vehicle to a custom shop and paid thousands of dollars to have their ride customized. This site is more geared towards (Car Enthusiasts) of all ages whether they have a Stock Ride or something that has been modified in one way or another. A person shouldn’t be penalized for posting a stock ride that they take pride in, just bought or has very little money to spend if any on upgrading/modifying their ride. Not everyone is as fortunate to have a high paying job or the disposable income to shell out cash for modifications on his/hers ride.

We have all succomb to the hater and the BS raings. After reading over what other members felt, I also have to agree that members making fake accounts to come on here and leave poor rating is totally unfair, dishonest and very immature. I also have to agree that if you don’t have a legitimate ride to show, you shouldn’t be able to vote on other members rides. My g/f and I are active members on here and do vote everyday on clean, tasteful, and well deserving rides, but no one in our opinion deserves a 1 star rating. We all work very hard on what ride we have whether its a free hand-me-down or a $1 million dollar McLaren F1. To come onto a website like Cardomain for ex. just to leave poor ratings, slanderize, talk down to some or for whatever reason, is just ridiculous. You need to find something better to do with your time. I have spoken to a few members and feel that this new ratings system is going to cause a lot of fighting/conflicts and possibly people leaving Cardomain for another website. As much as I would hate to see Cardomain lose members, I feel that this new ratings system will show those who really care and appreciate hard work and nice rides verses those who don’t. This is a wonderful site but still needs to be tweeked so its fair for everyone of all ages. To some people its all about the votes and being number 1, then to others its about getting comments on their ride and people showing appreciation on the hard work they’ve done. I personally feel if 1 star votes are going to be given they should be thrown out and not count. If you do leave a lower rating, an explanation would be better than no comment on why a lower rating was given.

In theory this might be a good idea, but it’s implemented terribly. Here’s the flaws.
1) This is going to be used for retaliation more than anything. Sometimes I go to a site and I just don’t like the car or it’s a stocker, so I gove it 1-3 stars. (stockers get 1-3 stars, modified cars get 4-5 stars). The person will now see that I rated them low and they will come to my site and automatically rate me low just because I did. Even if they like my car, they’ll still rate low because they are mad I honestly rated them low.
2) Sometimes I will rate a car a 3 because its a stock car. Then months later I check back and they have now modded their car. i now want to update my rating to 4 or 5. I do so but the rating shown never updates, so it appears I didn’t upgrade their rating when I actually did.
3) It’s all out of order, their no rhyme or reason to the order of the people who rated. That makes it hard to view. The ratings should just show next to the persons comments.
4) Not sure if it even works correctly. I just now got a comment and the person wrote 5*’s, but when I go into the rating view to see their rating they are no where to be found. Either they put 5* but really didn’t rate, or it’s not working correctly.
5) If you must have this, what others rated me should be for my eyes only, not for the entire public to see.
6) If someone gives me 5*’s you’re going to feel obligated to give them 5*’s back even if you think they don’t deserve it so that you don’t offend the person.

I understand the need to get rid of the haters and the fake accounts, but this should be pulled immediately and re-tooled. Not thought out well at all.

I even commented to one who gave me one, claimed the system was messed up and he had given me five… is that true or not? Seems like it is, so don’t jump to conclusions! I noticed one member’s 1 star went to five after about 1 hour and I hadn’t said anything to them about it either.

And I agree with the multiple fake accounts. They need to go. Like I had one with 10 accounts rank me 1 star. “Hummaguy1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10″. That is damn ridiculous! CarDomain needs to stop that. Or at least make it so you cannot rate anyone else unless you post a ride page.

NOW IF I COULD JUST GET MY OLD RATINGS BACK. LIKE EXTERIOR, DUB, INTERIOR, ETC. Lost them with the big change and cannot get them back! Any ideas?

Well, after looking through this rating thing (bad idea). I am pretty sure (could be wrong) that some number one ranked people in my category are baiting the ratings to stay on top.. I do not care if I am number 1,2,3,4,5,6 or whatever. But I despise cheaters. I have seen over 20 accounts that have no ride. They are all listed as California rides. That tells me that this person making these accounts does not know other area codes. They consistently rate me 1 star all across the board. Unsolicited, underhanded, immature, silly BS. I am rating 1 star back. You reap what you sow kiddies.

um… that might stir a hornets nest… Some people leave 1 star for people that post stupid things, like a picture of a Lambo, that is not theirs. They may retaliate, and submit a negative star back, that is unjustified. I think this is a really bad idea.

I was going to suggest that u save yourself bandwidth, by having a refresh button on the comments area, as opposed to reloading an entire page. And how about fixing the damn site… Still can’t post videos on my pages, since the format change debacle!!
