It’s about time it gets some power! I am a die hard Ford fan, but GM has been killing the Mustang in power for years.

lwill67: If I recall correctly, the current CJ Mustang is limited production to 50 units per year, and though I believe it is still street legal, it is still a $70,000 drag car. For a little more, I could get a 750hp GT500 Super Snake. Ford needs a model that is more mass produced to fill the gap between the GT and the GT500, and since they failed to do a 40th anniversary Boss, I’d say they still need to do one because it’s long overdue. Larry Shinoda(father of the original Boss) did create a Boss package for the SN95 Stangs, and it was carried over to the new generation, but he did it without Ford’s blessing unfortunately, not that they seem to have minded much.

My neighbor had one of these with a 5 speed manual…well kind of. It actually had a Ford racing engine under the hood but that grey 89′ still sported the 5.0 badging. You could hear that thing from a mile away. Unfortunately he sold it and bought a 1999 Toyota Camry Solara…wtf? Talk about a down-grade.

I salute Ford and the Mustang, seriously… I do.
-
as I’m flying past in a Firebird.
-
Really, it’s all good… Americans making cars. It IS an important part of what it takes to be as the U.S. should be… having a thriving auto industry.
-
Let’s try to fix some damage, GM… bring back the Firebird! You’re 85% the way there! “Pontiac” can just be a nameplate, we won’t mind!
-
well, the guys in the Mustangs might…

Scampy: Ford did not have a Boss anything in any of the last 20 years. Those cars you were seeing were done by aconversion company and were a joke.

Retroman: Ford already has a factory sanctioned car between the GT and the Shelby GT500 its called the Cobra Jet and it makes about 485 hp with the same motor as the GT500 just detuned.

Now that we have 412 Hp in a 400lb lighter car than the Camaro we will be back on top at the dragstrip as well as the road course. The last time Ford came out with this size engine they dominated the drag scene from 1986 to 1993 and hopefully Ford can do it again. The Camaro is a joke and nothing more than a G8 Pontiac(same platform) and while the Challenger looks great its to heavy to ever be a contender. If nothing else we can kill’em with the GT500.

nice, those were some quick motors in those cars, way overpowered, who cares if its technically 4.9L i got a firebord with a 5.0 and against the stangs ive been up against stock to stock the stangs were either the same or better. so bring it on. PS wasnt there already a boss 302 in the ’05 body style i looked at one but unfortunately it was just a gt with a cold air kit and a shaker hood. *sigh*

302 cubic inches is equal to 4.94 litres, which rounds out to obviously 4.9. For it to truly be a 5.0, it’d need to be upped to 305.

technically its not back considering the original 5.0 was really a 4.9, gm made the only true 5.0. But this will definelty sell more mustangs, definetly a good idea on fords part.

I knew it! I was lookin at a 2010 and I asked the dealer about the possibility of a 5.0 coming out and he was pretty hesitant to answer, I ended up waiting and I’m glad I did! Can’t wait til it comes out!

I’m glad I’ve been waiting to invest in a Mustang! I’ve always loved Mustangs, but I really fell for them in 2005 with the recent body style. And now that they’re coming 400+hp N/A? That’s going to leave plenty of room for potential! Hell, I might even just go with the 300+hp V6…NAH!

I certainly hope they dig up the old “The Boss is Back!!” campaign that they had in ’82. That would be trippin’… Oh, yeah, one more thing. Hey, Ford, can we get a factory sanctioned Boss 302 this time around??? And make it about 500hp, less than the current GT500 (540hp), but more than a GT.

Right on! They had to do something because there has to be more desparity between the v6 and v8 than 10 horse. I imagine that is a new displacement but still an overhead cam modular motor?
