By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I’m not a huge fan of the 2010 body style and was saving up for a 2008 Bullitt, but now I’m feeling very torn… More pics and details on the new 412 hp 5.0 at Jalopnik. And be sure to check out the official Ford videos after the jump!

A classic is reborn. I see allot of people comparing numbers, but they will probably build more of the new 5.0′s in one year than two or three years of the SS, seriously how many have you seen on the road? Out of the box it seems tame but every time Ford builds a new Stang the aftermarket support is incredible.

Spikexr. I think the same about V6 muscle cars but i think its cool how fords bringing 310hp with 30mpg to a cheaper version that people that cant afford the GT or insurance. I personally am getting the GT but if i didnt have to pay for insurance i would prolly go wiht the V6 but wouldnt call it a muscle car.

Correction 400K+ miles*

More torque, less torque. More HP, less Hp. If you win, you win
and if you lose, you lose. If your car weighs as much as a M3 Bradley tank you’ll need more torque. I’ve seen supras, civics, datsuns…with 4400k miles on them and running very well…..

Im lovin the sound of the 5.0 comin back. For those with imports that are arguing against american muscle, I just have to say something might be damaged in your head. There was talk about a ’93 supra bein a fast car for little money. Correct, but take into account the ’93 Ford Mustang 5.0 Fox Body. More horses may be acheived in a supra, maybe, but I seriously doubt the torque is beatable. Im not as much of a straight line racer or a street track guy. Im into drifting, and yes imports are lighter, but their not gona get the same torq

I love American muscle but I can’t afford them. Here are a few things you can’t deny. Imports usually have better HP per US-dollar ratio, lighter, and is generally faster(93 Supra was way ahead of it’s time). Let’s say the 5.0 is 30grand which I’m sure it’ll be more… to buy. How much more would you have to spend to make it break 10s? If I ever get my hands on 30stacks, I’d just by a supra plain and simple. I’d put as much money as you would in your Chevy’s and Fords and walk on them all day. For car enthusiast, they know that there would be no competition as the supra is found to be the fastest modified car in the world being the straight 6 is a profound engine. Righy now my civic kills these cars all day and I only spent 11grand before body work…. http://www.youtube.com/videos?ytsession=CpsYCcEQc2FTVKBp298XfI3ektln-3AQtmmDSXVR8oxOfOnJ9-nXi_Q0ejq_TsVNX2pch90v9TD0kbekngU2MhO7I4vtJMiJy8A91V-f8DRJfJSKqttVFDg9cYngqdWPAmmEMwCCAb6La5h6cyQcsQiYqCGcZsz6Y7iFWEL2Hl4WKiGwswINOLpSj-vluni2khYkfLJT6loKVTWBt-Fx2ecu4LWqmNgTzpqEA-ORKnK7hgxjeHWp1n4F1hRQgyEr2K01e7K1L7b0bMww-iqXJayRo0z1h6w9e6eDxlm3MP8LssezBsPT8wzrdo5sB5fI8WxXyOcFJMQd7QDgaMgnZw

I have a mustang but THANK YOU CHEVY for gettign high HP in stock mustangs now….ford is doing the 400hp range with a 5.0 and chevy does it with a 6.2 so imagine if ford stepped their GT up to a 6.2

@nocturnetouch

If you had put that money into beefing up a Camaro, Challeger or 5.0…..then either of those cars would spank your Civic. besides,,,a civic is a Chick car…and its design is ugly. imo…no one gives your car a 2nd look.

I have a 1995 4dr Civic with a built b16 boosted at 20lbs which dynoed at 505hp and 418lb-ft. I have destroyed the Shelby seriers 09 here in Vegas to LA. Probably because I have a curb weight of 2500lbs and that’s with tvs and a pretty good sound system. I bought it for 1900 bucks. After all my mods I spent about 9 stacks. 10.5 @ 145. The victum list continues with the srt 8s, bmw m5 ,evo X, Sti…. american muscle is nice, but heavy and expensive. Oh, one more thing… my eg…. its a daily driver.

Tybaseball8, since when v6 mustangs have that much power, i drive a scion tc with some minor mods i can take v6 stangs, dont get me wrong, i would love to have the new gt but v6 new muscle cars are lame…

K2DOG is a joke. first off GM needs to do alot more then just lose weight. Yea the mustang is lighter but its the advancement in the engines that make it so much better. For ex. the V6 stang pushing 310hp at 30mpg. Im also picking up my 2011 GT this May and i would love to race ur ricer 09 Cobalt SS haha. Every 16 year old at my school has one and there a joke. AMERICAN MUSCLE

Nocturnetouch: Newer V8s don’t have as much of the fuel guzzling reputation that their ancestors do. Ford is casting this block from aluminum to save on weight, plus they decided to go with all the right internal components, meaning that this engine not only makes those 425 horses without forced induction, but it has alot of room for performance modifications and is rated at your beloved 25mpg to boot. I’m sure that by 2014, Ford will be making 500 horse GTs without any sacrifice to fuel economy given that both GM and Chrysler have declared war on each other and Ford.

I’d rather boost a B16 at 20lbs and get 500hp and daily drive at 25mpg.

Its nice having all of these manufacturers at it once again. We get to relive some of what happened 40+ years ago. Im a GM guy to the fullest. FORD is commin strong. But…they all need to get the weight down and start pulling more potetial out of these cars from the factory. High 12′s low 13′s. Come on now. I drive a 09 Cobalt ss with a trifecta tune, charge piping, catless dp, and an intake. 1,100 dollars and i can out run any of the cars on the track or strip. $23,800 and some change. V8 power out of these cars sucks. 30k + and a simple econobox is killen em. Dont mean to b**** but i want more from the factory before i buy anything with a V8 badge. P.s. thats affordable

And, I should ad that GM is getting that out of a 6.2, vs. fords 5.0.

GTwildfire: The new Camaro has 400 HP, so if 412 isn’t a big deal then 400 is much less of a deal.

camaro and challenger all the way besides displacement doesnt matter you can hop up anything so i dont know what the big deal is

the 412 bhp doesn’t seem to be a big deal. What’s the 2010 Camaro’s engine putting out? Isn’t the SS getting 500 hp or something like that?
-
Seems like the 5.0 V8 Mustang thing is good for nostalgia and little else…
-
oh no… maybe this’ll signal a comeback for Vanilla Ice.

In my opinion, you should still buy the Bullitt. The only thing better about this Mustang, besides the engine, is the 5.0 badging on the side. They’re ugly as hell, but it is pretty cool to see that legedndary badge on a Mustang again, and it will be even cooler to see how if it stacks up now with the Camaro and Challenger. I really want to see Chevy and Dodge up the ante and either add more horsepower, upgrade the suspenion, or lighten up their pony cars.

Oh my dam!!!!! This is probably a big improvement for those all motor guys but people fail to realize that Ford really has models for everyone’s needs and pocket books. I mean lets face it, for those who don’t have alot of money (like me) but want the mustang body style, you have the 210 hp v6 for around $22,000. For those who want that 300 hp, you have the V8 for around $30,000. For those who want a mustang for the race course, you have the Roush which dishes out around 435 hp with an unbelieveable suspension and that car runs around $45k. Then for those who want that all out drag strip speed, they got the 500 hp Shelby which costs too dam much lol. People don’t realize that the new 5.0……………..it wont be cheap.

I WANT ONE! I’m glad I waited so many years before thinking about investing in one! They were trailing the other modern muscles far too long. It will be nice to see head-to-head conparisons with the SS Camaro and the R/T and SRT8 Challengers.

I’d say if you really want the best of both worlds, buy the Bullitt and save for a 5.0 engine swap. I don’t mind the ’10s, but I really like the ’05-’09s a little better. I’m sure that after the 5.0 comes out, you’ll be seeing alot of guys with ’96-’09s and even older Stangs perhaps with the new engine much like how guys swap in the old 302 into the ’64-’66 Mustangs.

Honestly. I am not a ford fan in the least, and I’ve hated mustangs most of all (mostly cause thier owners are a bunch of dicks). But other then the old late 60′s styles, I would never of owned a mustang. BUT, I can honestly say I wouldn’t mind having the 2010 style, and the new 2011′s with the 5.0′s would be the best imo. I would still pick a 2010 SS camaro over it though in a heartbeat.
