Moto Supra

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Tokyo Auto Salon often brings out stuff that makes SEMA seem tame. So how about an Eleanor based on a fourth generation Toyota Supra? The students from Saitama University’s automotive course who built this named it “Moto Supra.” More pics after the jump! Via Car Scoop

Before I say what I think about this car, I will say that I own a 1972 mustang mach 1, very similar to the original gone in 60 seconds eleanor from 1974. This supra shares no parts with a mustang, it is all handmade. They were being creative and there is nothing wrong with that. I like this car. No it doesn’t look like a mustang should, but it doesnt matter because its not. Btw, the “eleanor” car everyone knows and loves, is not carroll shelbys creation, it was chip fooses. The movie cars had no resemblance to an actual shelby other than the tail lights and a few badges, everything on them was handmade also. I bet if carroll saw this car, he would love it and appreciate it for what it is. I’m sure this thing has some big twin turbo rock your socks off engine, and handles better than any 67 shelby ever dreamed of. I do agree the gas cap should be functional. I like this car. yup.

damn quit whining people. theyre just students doing something different. they didnt do anything to a mustang, there isnt an ounce of mustang in that entire car. and where they are, supras are a dime a dozen so you cant argue that point either. whaaa whaaa whaaaa. and dude with the bronco, you’re a fuckin idiot.

Really says something when even overseas they are still trying to copy the Mustang. Supras are great cars and all, but I find the effort put into hiding what the car really is fascinating.

OMMFG WTF DID THEY DO ill give them credit where its due its to all the wasted hours to destroy two cars and make them worse lol very poor judgement it looks like a block on wheels a mustang is not that blocked out except the ones around 1994 95 and 96 somewhere in there that “Eleanor” the 1967 Shelby GT500 had alot more curves and was more eligant then that a prime classic car and the dream car on every mans list im not even a Mustang lover and that one is on the top of my list of dream cars im very disappointed with this the creators of this car should bury themselves alive for destroying such beautiful cars and to make them one big piece of scrap parts
THEY SHOULDVE USED THE MONEY TO MODIFY THIER OWN CARS but hey u can only find it in japan along with Tommy Lee Jones on vending Machines or beer in vending machines

The hood seems like an afterthought with the way the headlights blend into everything. Other then that, the rear half of the car is killer.

I have a 66′ Mustang FB GT350 Clone and a 97′ Supra TT 15th Anniversary Edition in the garage. I have been trying to mate them for about a year with no success. I think I will stop tryin. What an ugly kid!

to every man his own I suppose. I think it’s creative, and I respect it for that. creative to an extent though. it’s not original seeing how the original gt500E has already been reproduced into everyones modern day version of eleanor. The only thing I have to complain about is the fact that the chrome gas cap is a fake. I figure if you were to put that much time into transforming something like that, spend that much money, you would at least work that out. It just seems like the came up with something way over the top. why not make it fully functional. oh well. all in all the idea is sweet, i just think it was half assed. my opinion.

I appreciate the work but I question the motive. The Supra is an iconic car all on it’s own just as the Eleanor Mustang. I don’t think a mash up of two icons into one car will ever work, there just isn’t enough space. Also couldn’t they have used a pre 1993 supra? the square roof would lend it self to the body lines better.

the original GT500′s are beautiful, and the one from Gone in 60 seconds is nice (although i wish that more people know that’s not how they actually looked). However, this is hideous and just wrong. The Japanese should stick to making their cars look their own stuff and not ruin our classics like this and the RB26 powered Mustang in Tokyo drift.

No need for me to express my hate since everyone else did it so well already. I agree with the consensus that this thing sucks.

That is so ugly its actually offensive. It is a disgrace to Caroll Shelby. If i built and designed a beautiful car that became a classic, and someone did that to it, id smack a bitch

I agree 100% with retroman

Jan 19, 2010 at 8:28 am

That is awful! Even if it wasnt a disgrace to Carol Shelby’s work, the lines are really odd. they go the back, the rear fenders all wrong, looks bloated. Just awful. They should stick to those hideous toasters.

That’s a disgrace to all shelby’s out there and to Carol Shelby!!

the versitility of a muscle car with a bad ass tunner. I like it. Plus that took alot of engineering that you have to appreciate.

Wow. Way to mess up a great American classic. The Supra is a nice car too, looks like people are finding new ways to waste money. Ridiculous.

WHY DID THEY HAVE TO RUIN ELEANOR??? I agree with retroman that you CAN NOT make a foreign car into a Mustang!!! That is absolutely rediculous!!!!!

Jan 18, 2010 at 5:41 pm

did they put a Nissan engine in it like they did in Tokyo Drift? no? well then i dont like it.

Dang, why did they have to ruin a Supra? It lost me on the second picture…. plain ugly

retroman
Jan 18, 2010 at 3:09 pm

They say imitation is the best form of flattery, but you just can’t take a foreign car and turn it into a Mustang, especially a modded Shelby Mustang. It’s a nice try, but I think the lines are all wrong. I’ve heard of guys making Fierrario’s (imitation Ferrari’s from a Pontiac Fiero), but unlike Ferraris, it’s not like it’s hard to find a ’67 Mustang fastback, especially with reproduction bodies availiable.

88eurotrash
Jan 18, 2010 at 1:22 pm

I like a well crafted creation as much as anyone else and I’m sure this took alot of man hours and cash to build, so I’ll give them that. but the supra should not have been chosen as a base for a mustang build. the body lines are just not right. now take a classic celica ’76-’77 liftback and you are already halfway there. just look at the body lines on mine.
