Which is the Better Investment: Acura Integra Type-R or Ford GT?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Here’s a question to follow up on the Acura Type-R post. Let’s say you are going to retire in twenty years. For your retirement fund, you can either mothball one (1) Ford GT or ten (10) Acura Integra Type-Rs. You can visit them but you don’t get to drive them. Sorry. So, which will be worth more in twenty years?

For those who pick the Acura, I’ve got a nice, high mileage 03 Cavalier that I’ll let go for only $45,000.

WTF?! A disposable import car that Honda made millions of vs a rare exotic car… ARE YOU SERIOUS? Ford GT FTW! The Honda will decrease in value once the ricer fad is over.

i say keep 1 teggy sell the rest put the money into paint, performance upgrades, and turn the teggy into a one off show car and then you have a more rare car with a whole lot more value then your gt.

I’m going to go with the 10 Type-R’s. You’ve got a much better chance doubling your money with the Type R’s as opposed to the Ford GT.

i would chose the type-r, would break the bank to buy tires, brakes, and gas…and besides the ford gt is ugly!!!

How is this even a question?

Type R’s are going to depreciate in value over time no matter what quantity you have..why would you ever think they would appreciate in value with numerous cars built?

The GT is a better investment because many classic and/or rare cars appreciate in value over long periods of time. There simply isn’t enough quantity to keep up with demand, hence creating appreciation on the car

If you are basing the decision of a strictly financial aspect you have to choose the GT, but if you are doing it on preference of car, then well to each his own

Definitely the Ford GT in this contest, but that’s not to say the Integra type-r is any less of a great car, the GT has a lot of history behind it too and it quite possibly one of the best GT cars out there. My money is on the GT!

Definitely the GT, for value and well just coolness(yes coolness). I mean look, you take somebody in your garage and say, “Look what I got”…You show them ten Type-R’s and they say”Wow, uh cool, good for you”. You show them a GT, and you get the reaction of a five year old seeing Mickey Mouse for the first time at Disney World. Point being whether or not one knows cars, their history, or their value they’re gonna pick the GT.

There’s some serious Ford hate coming from the staff these days. The GT is obviously the better “investment” car. The Teg is, well, a Teggy. Great little car, but no GT.

I think the answer is obvious. Prices for the original GT-40s are insane, unless you buy a kit car. I’d love to have a GT someday, or any day for that matter. I feel that the performance and beauty of the new GT exceeds it’s original MSRP far better than the Type R does, and like CDB1996DCM said, it’s not out of the ordinary to see a Type R being driven in the snow.

Yes it’s a serious question. I figure nice examples of both cars could easily double or triple in value in that time. The question is, which will go up in value faster?

This is a serious question? Really? Not even a GT vs “Some other equally rare and valuable Import”? Wow. GT. No if ands or buts

I don’t have exact numbers but it would seem that more Type-R’s where produced than new Ford GT’s. That being said I think that the Ford GT will be worth ( not sure if worth more than TEN Type-R’s though)more do to the simple fact that less of them were produced. I see Type-R’s every day(being driven in the salt/snow even!!!)
