J Mays: The Good Stuff is Coming!

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

“Oh, it’s you two! I love you guys! Let’s talk about cars!” J Mays broke away to greet Rob and I as we worked our way through the Ford stand at NAIAS. And Rob and I love J Mays, Global Executive Vice President for Design at Ford. We sat down for a few minutes with Mays to chat yellow Mustangs, the future of the hatchback (that’s five-door to you!), the lack of Ranger, and what to expect for a Crown Vic replacement. Details after the jump!

Pro Street 1970 Challenger

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Every once in a while we run across a car we know you would love to see, but that we can’t shoot a full feature on due to time or circumstance. Our neighbor, George, has some cool toys, including a clean four-speed 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner, several cool trucks, and a really bitchin’ big rig. But one of our favorites is his bad black pro street 1970 Challenger. Last week we saw the Challenger parked in his driveway waiting for its prospective new owner to come check it out. We took the limited time to shoot a few photos and bring you this “mini-feature”. Check out all 19 photos here.

George’s ’70 Challenger features all the required elements of any good pro street car, wrapped in a beautiful black package. Stock handles and bumpers leave no one guessing what it is, and keep the look classic. On the inside a mostly stock black interior is accented with race buckets, vinyl covered tin work, and an assortment of Auto Meter gauges. Continue reading at BangShift.com

Hemmings Find of the Day – Neil Young’s 1948 Packard

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

Didn’t recognize the name of Emmett Kelly, the clown who owned yesterday’s 1972 Citroën? Me neither. More likely, you’ll recognize the name of the man who purportedly once owned this 1948 Packard woody station wagon: Neil Young. He must’ve sold it before he go all bio-diesely. Offered for $49,500 out of Astoria, New York. The seller doesn’t give us much more info, but plenty of photos. See the rest at Hemmings

Naked 2011 Mustang

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

While Linhbergh was in Charlotte shooting the Mustang RTR and RTR-C last week, we stopped by Autosport Dynamics where we were able to check out the shell of my new competition car. The Falken Tire 2011 Ford Mustang chassis had just arrived from paint. Here is a picture of me getting acquainted with my new car for the first time. Something is so cool to me about seeing a freshly painted bare chassis. Anyone agree?

Old Clutch, Not So Bad

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

I asked the shop to save the parts for me so I could see how bad my old clutch was. Not so bad, according to the shop, I could have gone another 15K miles with no worries. It was a good thing I had it done – my rear main seal was starting to go! It’s all buttoned up with the new 5th now, and I’m going 76mph at 3K rpm, a far dry from the 68mph with the old 5th.

8-Second Evo!

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

Last week, David Stock’s STM-prepped Evo 9 blasted through the 1/4 mile in a blistering 8.63 seconds. From what we can tell, this 1000 horsepower beast is a handful. Just look at how squirrelly it gets when he drops the hammer!
