VW NCC

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

The guys down at fifteen52v2 must be smiling. VW is picking up the coupe torch again with the New Compact Coupe. Arriving in a haze of smoke and interpretive dancers (minus last year’s Star Trek speech), the new model is part of the “new” lineup that will fuel their expansion in the US market. It joins the New Compact Sedan (Jetta replacement) and the New Midsize Sedan (Passat replacment). Powertrain plans include a full hybrid drivetrain with a 27hp electric motor and battery power. This is a departure from the standalone clean Diesel gospel that the VW Group usually preaches, and is directed exclusively at the American market. More pics after the jump.

Mini Beachcomber Concept

By Katherine Helmetag

The Mini Urban Beach is open for tanning. With no roof, no back, and no sides, it looks like a modern sand rail, Mini-style. High contrast neoprene seats, sports graphics, and a lot of fussy detail combine into a cute concept with about zero chance of production. Whatever. I like the “roof” detail at the back.

Brown Audi S5 Cabriolet

By Katherine Helmetag

Atomicalex

I’m not a big fan of brown cars. Brown paint is so hard to get right, and when (not if) you get it wrong, you either look like shiny dirt or the UPS truck. However…. this shade of metallic brown is working for this Audi R8 Cabriolet. I like it!

Here Comes the Nissan Leaf

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I missed out on a chance to drive one of these a few weeks ago. Looks great in person and I think it’s gonna be a big success for Nissan when it comes out later this year. No formal word on pricing, but it should undercut the Volt by quite a bit. Tons more pics after the jump.

NAIAS: The Son of the Subaru SVX (with just a bit of XT), the Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Wandering around the NAIAS show, I came across  the Subaru Hybrid Tourer Concept Car, unveiled last year at the Tokyo Auto Show. It is one of the most eye catching designs I’ve seen yet. I would say that this is the spiritual successor to Subaru’s sports cars of the past, the SVX, and the XT. What do you think? More pics after the jump!

Wandering through the Chrysler stand, we happened on this Ram truck on the ceiling. We don’t get it either.

Chrysler Lancia Delta

The FIAT merger seems to be a go now. This Chrysler-badged Lancia Delta surprised us – we propose calling it the Atlantica. It is smaller than the Pacifica….

Plum Crazy Challenger with White Seats at NAIAS

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

Mopar guys have been clamoring for more interior color choices on the new Challenger, which up to now has only been available with the Dark Slate Gray. Well, how about white?

By the way, I’ll be meeting with the Dodge guys tomorrow and will get all your Challenger questions answered.
