Heading to Detroit
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
On Sunday I’m flying out to Detroit to cover the North American International Auto Show with Katherine and Jim. We’ll be talking to folks at GM, Ford, Chrysler and VW, and of course reporting on everything cool we find at the show. I had a blast last year and I’m looking forward to going to the Designer Night party again this year. So is there anything in particular you guys want me to ask about or report on? My buddies at Moparts already loaded me up with a ton of questions about the Challenger. We’ve also set up meetings with a bunch of the Mustang designers and engineers, so definitely post your Mustang questions here. We’ll be posting plenty of pics in the CarDomain Events section, and a ton of video on StreetFire as well, so stay tuned…

El Camino Stomps the Ranchero on CarDomain

Despite the fact that the Ranchero is in better condition and has a bigger motor, you guys still picked the El Camino by almost a 2-to-1 margin in this week’s eBay Motors Showdown. Looks like the Ford sold for $6k while the Chevy is still struggling to meet the reserve.

The Coolest NASCAR Film of All Time
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
Bar none, end of story, this video featuring clips from NASCAR racing in the 1960s is the coolest stock car racing video we have ever seen. There’s Ford FEs running with the valve covers off, Hemis swinging through the air, guys drinking beer during pit stops, and full size cars on big rubber hauling ass.
The video looks to be cut together from footage used in an old Speedvision (remember that?) show as the Speedvision logo can be seen in the upper right corner of all the clips.
It was a totally different era back then and there are parts of the video that can stay in the 1960s but lots of it we would welcome back today. Mainly the massive cars, manufacturer identity, colorful drivers, and quaint conditions in the pits.
We watched this thing like four times in a row and kept seeing stuff we missed the time before. You’ll be slack jawed within one minute of hitting play. It’s that good.
Hemmings Find of the Day – 1974 Pontiac Grand Am
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
Love for the Colonnade? Koch’s 1974 Buick Regal driving impressions last month brought it out; let’s see if today’s HFOD, a four-speed 1974 Pontiac Grand Am, offered for $15,000 out of Hopkinton, Massachusetts, does the same. From the seller’s description:
Very rare Factory 4SPD one of only 146 made, Rebuilt 400 motor, rebuilt Muncie trans, Matching numbers drivetrain, new exhaust, etc. Rust free body, New paint/vinyl top, Oxblood interior in great shape with some wear on front seats. Runs well. Two owner car, Turn key.

The Twisted Corona
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
If you’ve ever read Hot Rod Magazine in recent years, you’ll know there aren’t too many Toyotas to be found in its pages. However, a few years ago Hot Rod featured this wild Toyota Corona as part of its “Dare to be Different” theme. For the magazine to feature a Toyota means it must be something special, and indeed this car is. Built by Mitch Allread of Newhall, California, what was once a basic ’68 Corona sedan is now a street-going circle track racer that also happens to stay true to its Toyota roots. Crime Scene Evidence Fail

The occupants can’t be that deceased, since this is one of the many rotting residential vintage motorhomes along Seattle’s beautiful Aurora Avenue that finds a new place to park every few days. I guess it’d make a pretty cool bumper sticker–if it was on a hearse. More views after the jump.

Sharon Stone’s ’72 Ford LTD Convertible up for Auction
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
Like every other teenage male old enough to get into an R-rated movie, I saw Basic Instinct immediately. I mean, tons of sex and violence plus a sweet car chase involving a Lotus Esprit? You couldn’t have kept me away from the theater with a shock collar. Sharon Stone was smoking hot in that flick, and since then, she’s demonstrated some serious acting chops, served as a spokesperson for the American Foundation for AIDS research, and donated time and money to a bunch of charitable organization, including Habitat for Humanity, Angels Place, and Lupus LA. Stone’s latest good deed is offering up her cherry ’72 Ford LTD Convertible up for auction at CharityBuzz.com. All the proceeds from the sale will go to the The Brent Shapiro Foundation, which aims to prevent drug and alcohol dependence. Head over and check it out. What are they going to do, arrest you for looking? Sorry, it was either that or some kind of sexually charged reference to seeing what’s under the hood. Oops…

C4 Corvette with Massive Blower
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
The massive roots type blower sticking at least two feet out of the C4 Corvette’s hood reminds us all of the infamous vehicles of Mad Max. Devouring gasoline as it pumps pure horsepower pleasure, this torque ridden C4 has plenty of power to go around. Read more about the C4 Corvette at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.
