A 200MPH Stud
By Speedhunters
Car Culture At Large
To the surprise of a few of the Speedhunters audience, I snuck the above image into the original announcement of the 2009 Speedhunters awards as a great example of stance. Some of you were confused that I wasn’t showing a stretch-tire-special, but I think this machine is a great example of perfect stance … look at the rake! Continue reading at Speedhunters

CarDomain’s People’s Choice 2009 Winners
By Rob Einaudi
Editor-in-Chief
This year’s People’s Choice was a hard fought battle. BFG, Mobil and BBS repeated their victories from last year. Best exhaust was a very tight race between Borla and Magnaflow, with Magnaflow winning in the end by just a few votes. But the biggest fight by far was for Showoff of the Year, which extended beyond CarDomain and out to the forums. Terry’s awesome 240Z took an early lead, but in the end the Mustang community came through big time and delivered a victory to the very worthy ChevyKiller. Congrats to all the winners, and thanks to everyone who voted!
1. Best Tire Manufacturer: BFGoodrich
2. Best Motor Oil: Mobil

7. Most Exciting Enthusiast Vehicle Lineup: Nissan
8. Best Video Game: Forza 3

10. Showoff of the Year: ChevyKiller

Plastic Headlight Restoration

When it started getting dark this winter, I noticed the headlights on my wife’s Neon weren’t shining very brightly. New headlights were simply not in the budget, so I looked into polishing the lenses. The picture below is what I started with. If you have a first-gen Neon, this looks familiar.

Engine Out!
Atomicalex
I dropped the powertrain out of the brown car this week. I don’t have room for a hoist inside of the garage, and it’s cold up here in Detroit, so I used the 2×4 method. To do a drop this way, you cut a 2×4 to fit in the fender rails, and attach your chain to it. Of course, you attach the chain to the engine also. You jack the engine and trans from the underside to relieve the stress on the mounts and then remove the bolts. The 2×4 and chain are primarily a safety device, but allow you to guide the engine down without dropping it or having it fall off the jacks. Once you get the engine safely out of the way of anything important, you remove the chain and jacks (one by one) to lower the engine to the ground. What I like about this method is that you can use the 2×4 as a lever to lift and move the engine around in the bay if you have to. It’s not as fancy as a hoist, but it also doesn’t take up much space in the garage. Obligatory standing in the engine bay shot after the jump.
Ugliest Taurus Ever!
By Alex Vickers

I think it’s fairly unanimous that this is the most butt-ugly, nightmare incurring custom Taurus ever. It totally kicks the balls of that Camry I posted in June, don’t you think?

Best Burnout Ever?
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
Now, I know that saying something is the best anything is just going to inspire argument, but regardless, this is a pretty wicked burnout. Of course, if I was going to do burnout in a classic Camaro with a fresh, blown big block, I’d want to be like, 18 miles away from any concrete walls…

Autocar Pitts Ducati 1098 Against Nissan GT-R
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
OK, this is hardly the first time that I’ve seen a fast bike pitted against a hot car. But it’s not like I’ve never eaten tacos, drank booze, or gotten laid before, and I’m not even close to sick of any of those things. And while you probably know—or, em, should know—how it’s going to end up when these hot pieces of hardware square off, it’s still great fun to watch. Personally, I was blown away watching Ducati’s 1098 rip by a GT-R on full afterbuner. I mean, I know how fast Godzilla is. When I drove Nissan’s halo car, I was blown away by its insane quickness, and I talked about it to anyone who would listen, and plenty of people who were just pretending to, for days afterward. But when something tips the scales at 400lbs and sports 150 horsepower at the wheel, it’s not exactly slow, and it passes the GT-R like a rifle bullet passing a horse and buggy. Amazing…
