RE Amemiya Genki RX-7 Show Car For Sale

By Ben Schaffer

The Real JDM

Following up from yesterday’s blog post on our offering of the RE Amemiya 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon main show car, today we’re talking about the Genki RX 7. The FD3S RX-7 titled Genki was RE Amemiya’s 2009 main demo car for Tokyo Auto Salon. This car represents the future and is Amemiya-san’s vision of where he wants the RX-7 to go, given the fact that the FD3S is long since over as a production car. This car features proven and trusted RE Amemiya power modifications helping it reliably push 500hp range, an overall balanced tune perfect for circuit and street use, and one of the most unique aero kits perhaps any of us will ever see. Hemmings Find of the Day – 1976 VW Westfalia

While I might’ve questioned the collectibility of yesterday’s 1972 Winnebago Brave, there’s no doubt that certain Volkswagen aficionados seek out Volkswagen camper buses like this 1976 Westfalia currently for sale on Hemmings.com for $8,750. From the seller’s description:

Excellent condition, original floors, body, chassis and interior including pop up canvas, beds (sleeps four) and carpet. Yaris on Twenties

Car Culture At Large

Natural progression or a fluke? You can’t open a ‘pic of the day thread’ on a random forum without getting confronted with cars that have a killer stance. Normally you would see cars like a Impreza or Evo and of course the S-chassis cars. But we can’t forget the little guys, like this Toyota Yaris or Vitz as it is known in other countries.

This particular car has its roots in Indonesia and is rolling round town on a set of 20″ Weds Kranze Bazreia wheels. There isn’t a lot of info about the car itself but I did spot a few items that aren’t standard. Continue reading at Speedhunters

Fireball’s MINI Cooper Killers?

By Fireball Tim

Movie Car Design Master

Now, Mini Coopers have cornered the market on funky cool. This much we know. But there’s a lot of hot hatches out there and more coming. But is there really a “MCK” out there?

Case in point… The Audi A1 and Citroen Ds3. I’ve heard a lot about these lil’ beasts taking away a wee bit of the Mini control. But, I think not. The doods that buy a MINI are into levity. The A1 and Ds3 are anything but funny.

These two road rockets are destined to be serious pocket powered attitude generators. Therefore, they’re different. But which one is for you? And which one is for me?

The ONLY way judge is to get behind the wheel and lay down the hammer. Let’s see if Audi and Citroen are up for a Fireball foot smack…

Ken Block’s New Monster Energy Fiesta

By John Coyle

Deputy Editor

It was big news when Ken Block decided to switch from Subaru to Ford, and lots of people—even Hitler—had strong feelings about the move. Personally,  I love the 2010 Fiesta, and think the Blue Oval’s little hot hatch looks pretty sharp wearing the Monster livery. For the record, I also think “Vibrant Thing” is proof positive that Q-Tip should have never quit Tribe, but that’s a whole different thing. Anyway, we’ll have to wait until March to see this baby race in WRC,  but it’ll make its competitive debut this Friday at the start of the 2010 Rally America Championship. Two more photos after the jump.

CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot: The Best of 2009

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

Welcome to the CarDomain Obscure Muscle Car Parking Lot, a series where I describe what I consider to be a muscle car, and where you either agree or disagree with me. It has been a fun year last year, and in December I ran a series of posts in which I asked you, the reader, to select your favorites by decade. Well, it’s time to reveal the best, and to do a final vote. Think of it as the Superbowl of Obscurity.

Bugatti Pulled From Italian Lake Sells for $370K At Auction, Money Goes to Charity

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Back in early January, a news story came across the wires that an ultra rare Bugatti Type 22 roadster had been pulled off the bottom of an Italian lake. It had been submerged 70 some years ago when customs officials could not obtain the proper documentation on the car and had to destroy it. They chose to push it into a watery grave, and there it sat for seven decades. It was removed and sold at auction, netting $370,000!

The truly cool part is that the money from the sale is not going into the pocket of some treasure hunter, instead it is going to a charitable foundation founded in the memory of a young Italian racing driver who was attacked and died from his injuries. The car was located by a local diving club and they teamed up with the charity to haul the car out of the water.

The story we read on Yahoo! Cars said that the car needs to be 80% restored. We think they lowballed that number by about 20%. Either way, we’re sure that the buyer, who essentially paid for the honor to pay a bunch of money to bring the car back to life will do the machine proud and the next story we will see will show a gleaming Bugatti Type 22 roadster. Thanks to BangShift.com forum member Malc for the tip! Via Yahoo

Make Your Own Paper Super GT NSX

By Ben Schaffer

The Real JDM

Having been blown away by seeing this thing at Tokyo Auto Salon, I wanted to write another blog post related to it.

By now I think we all know how incredible the cardboard GT500 NSX project turned out. For those of you who saw it in person, it was especially amazing when placed next to other Super GT cars. From a distance it literally fooled me and had me thinking it was a real car that just looked “a little unusual”. For a fan at heart like me, I’d love to one day own a 1:1 cardboard replica like this! But for now, I’ll just dream of having enough space at home to be able to own something like this.
