From the WTF files: Our man Jeff Koch just gave us the heads up that this 1972 Honda Z600 Coupe sold at Barrett-Jackson for $27,500. From the information sheet: “Car is finished in good Honda bright Sport Yellow over great sheet metal. Interior is new and correct black vinyl. All new chrome, bumpers and trim. Only 35,100 actual miles. All suspension, engine, exhaust system, rack & pinion, clutch and undercarriage has been rebuilt and detailed.”

Bronco vs. Land Cruiser: Which Would You Choose?

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

I’ve been wanting to put an early Bronco up against an old Land Cruiser in an eBay Motors Showdown for a while now, but was having trouble finding auctions that were priced close enough–Land Cruisers just seem to command more money at the end of the day. Well, I think I finally found a decent match. This 1972 Ford Bronco has been nicely redone and this 1973 Toyota Land Cruiser appears to be in very good original condition. So, which would you choose?

Racing Junk Find: High Dollar, High Quality, 1953 Dodge Meadowbrook Wagon

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

When we first saw this cool old Dodge wagon for sale on RacingJunk.com we gave it a cursory look and almost moved onto the next ad. We thought we were looking at an interesting body wrapping up a ho-hum street rod drivetrain, boy were we wrong. This two door wagon is not just a looker, it should flat haul ass too.

The two door wagon body is extremely rare as only 4,251 were produced in 1953 and seeing as these were frumpy family station wagons that would have had little to no appeal after they aged, we think that lots of them hit the scrapyard. One thing we know for certain is that this one is a genuine tire shredder packing 478 cubic inches of dual quad equipped Hemi!

There are not dyno numbers provided with the ad, but this thing would be a blast to drive (so long as the carbs are tuned properly and not loading up like crazy). The car was obviously built be a professional as it sits on a nice Art Morrison custom 2×4 frame that is equipped with air suspension. A 9-inch Ford rear packing 3.55 gears resides out back and is fed by a Mopar 727 trans. If an 8 3/4 rear or Dana 60 had been used the Russian judge would have scored the owner a “10″ for proper drivetrain parts usage.

Frankly, the interior is too nice for us. It fits the rest of the car and appears to be of execptional quality, but we’re grubby idiots who would sit down with a wrench in our pocket and punch a hole in the leather seat.

Talk about a bitchin’ family cruiser and occasional strip blazer! We want this one bad!

IS-F CCS Concept Video

By Ben Schaffer

The Real JDM

Video is good for capturing a few things that hi-res pictures just cant do justice to. One of my favorite details that I saw at TAS can be found in the rear wing of this Lexus IS-F CCS Concept (CCS = Circuit Club Sports). So rather than try to photograph it, I decided to take a video to show you how cool it is!

The side plates of the rear wing do something I’ve never seen before. They showcase the IS-F logo in multiple segments of dry carbon yet integrate it seamlessly in a way that blew all of us away. Afterward I was wondering how they did it. My guess is that they used a template and laser cut the pre-preg dry carbon to remove the total shape of the IS-F. Then I’m thinking that they laser cut the components of the IS-F and then re-arranged them all so it fit perfectly before putting it into the mold and then the autoclave. That’s my guess…whatever it was they did, it was brilliant.

The Boosted Pinto

By Speedhunters

Car Culture At Large

I figured I’d quickly post about a car that played an important role in my teenage years – a ’72 Ford Pinto. Yep, a Ford Pinto , the car that’s infamous for erupting into a ball of fire with a slight tap of the rear bumper. While this hot rodded Pinto was about as shoddy as it gets, its turbocharged engine swap also made it one of the funnest cars ever.

At some point someone took the rusty, weather Pinto chassis and added a turbocharged 2.3 liter motor from an ’80s era turbo Thunderbird. I bought the car in 2002 for something like 1,100 bucks, and I remember road tripping down to LA with my dad and driving the car 250 miles home – choking on gas fumes the whole way. 2011 Mustang Still a Bargain

By Rob Einaudi

Editor-in-Chief

The 300 hp V6 Stang will start just under $23k, including destination charges, and the new 412 hp 5.0 GT will be priced just over the $30k mark, including destination charges. See the full PDF at The Mustang Source.

Which reminds me of the Mustang conversations I had with the Ford guys at NAIAS. J Mays told me that they have already started preliminary work on the 50th anniversary Stang for 2014. He said he’d like to see the car shrink down a bit and told me that IRS would be “logical” for the next generation pony car. Regarding the current generation Mustang, Mays said we can expect more special editions, though he refused to be specific when I asked him about Boss Mustangs, Bullitt Mustangs and the Mach 1.

Walker, Texas Drifter

By Antonio Alvendia

Antonio Alvendia

The drifter archetype has changed. Today in America, drifting has become the life, in part or whole, to many different people from all walks of life. When I met Russell Walker for the first time and learned he piloted this ready to rock machine, I wasn’t too surprised. However, meeting him outside of a drifting event, you probably wouldn’t suspect that he’s a newly licensed Formula D driver.

In high school, where most young men start to entertain their desires, he started to cultivate an interest in the automotive world. He grew up in Texas, so of course he had a truck at first… but that didn’t stop him from causing mayhem. Running over curbs, signs and getting sideways in the rain was a common occurrence for Russell and his truck. However, as far away as Japan is from Texas, the drifting bug still bit him. He picked up this Nissan S13 240sx for $500 at the age of 17 and never looked back. It’s his first actual car, and I’d say it’s come quite a way from being the white hatch with black Silvia front end that it was a few years ago. Continue reading and view more photos on MotorMavens!

Akira Iida Puts RX7 Into Ditch

By Michael Berenis

Akira Iida is famous in Japan for his drifting abilities, but even pros make mistakes. During a slippery educational video, the drifting Mazda RX7 went into a flooded ditch and embankment, resulting in thousands of dollars worth of damage. Read more about the wreck at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.
