Speeding Mechanic

By Ron Honig

WaytooFurious

Over the years I have heard numerous stories of mechanics being caught speeding, or even crashing their clients cars. It does make you wonder what mechanic Leonie Magistro was thinking when he hit 160km/h in his client’s Lamborghini. After all he was only 60km/h over the speed limit! Get the full story at PerthNow. So has your mechanic ever abused your trust?

Incredible Group of Ford Rods, Muscle, and Factory Race Cars up for Private Sale

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

We really, honestly, do not know where to begin. When our friend Jim, the guy behind Project Fat Lane, the 1964 Thunderbolt look-a-like race car we are tracking, let us know that he was going to be trimming his Ford collection down by a few cars, we were all about helping him get the word out. When we learned exactly what was going to be sold, our jaws hit the floor. This is one of the most amazing collections of Ford cars for sale we have ever run across, and the crazy part is, this is just a slice of his stuff. It includes a real Thunderbolt, a real 1963 1/2 lightweight Galaxie, a real R-Code Galaxie, and nine more simply amazing blue oval cars ranging from hard core drag machinery to vintage retro-rod, to world class hot rods. If you’re a gawker or a buyer, you need to check this out.

There’s not a junker in the mix, and it is important to note that absolutely everything you’ll see, and you’ll see alot as we gave each car its own gallery, is original sheetmetal. Jim has never, nor will he ever buy a car that is rotted. With the exception of the ’32 Ford roadster, which sports a Brookville steel body, these are all original steel cars with a couple sporting their original factory paint. Gerald Elliot’s 1970 Ford Cortina GT has been outfitted race-built 2.3 SOHC tuned to make 240hp naturally aspirated. It also includes things like a Mustang T5 trans, a quick-change rear diff and some very racecar-like bodywork. As you can see in the photo, the car sees the track regularly.

Wrong time to hit the brakes… And I sure wouldn’t want to attempt that obstacle without a serious roll cage. Luckily no one was hurt.

Yet Another WTF-Amino on eBay

By Brian Lohnes

BangShift.com

Just in case you thought we were going all straight and narrow on you with our wall to wall coverage of the 2010 Grand National Roadster Show, we’re kicking things off today with this most incredibly FUBAR project in the long and storied history of FUBAR eBay projects. We give you the self titled, “1978 Chevrolet El Camino scooter.” Wow.

We were literally dumbstruck when we laid eyes on the “El Chevetto” project that the seller calls “unigue and one of a kind.” It is certainly “unigue,” among several other things like hideous, misguided, and deadly.

The bed appears to be from a Chevy truck and it has been lovingly melded with something that seems to be the extended cab portion of maybe a Datsun truck, which, in turn, has been grafted to the front half of a 1978 Chevette. The good news is that this entire rolling crime scene sits on a 2×4 square tube frame, with rails that don’t even end in the same place!

The seller says that he does not have the spare time to finish the project. For the love of all things mechanical and good. Someone needs to buy this and pack it full of C4. Thanks to BangShift.com member Mr4Speed for the tip!

Hemmings Find of the Day – 1989 Ghia Saguaro

By Dan Strohl

Hemmings

Currently, concept cars of the ’50s and ’60s = teh hotness. Then how about concept cars of the 1980s? Say, for example, the 1989 Ford Ghia Saguaro, a precursor to today’s crossovers? It debuted at the 1988 Turin Auto Show, then made its way to the states for the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, and has apparently remained here since. The only public sale price of it we can see was at the Christie’s concept car auction in 2002 in Dearborn, where Ford sold for just shy of $6,500. So would it be worth buying now and hanging on to it until MC Hammer-era nostalgia overwhelms us? See more pics at Hemmings

I’m a rather big fan of food–any type food really. I’ll eat anything if it’s in front of me, but when I’m confronted with a dish and I have no idea what to expect, things can go either of two ways: this plate of food can be life-changingly delicious, or Mr. Toilet and I will get to know each other very intimately for the next couple of hours. As we close this month’s Misfits and Maverick’s theme, we’ll take a look at a car that doesn’t quite fit in any given category other than itself. At first glance, this looks like any other lowered VW you’ve seen throughout the internet; but as take your spoon and start to dig in, you’ll find that the strawberries inside this orange and tart fruit and yogurt parfait to be especially fresh and especially mouth-wateringly sweet. It’ll taste like summer with each bite, even during the coldest of winters. Continue reading at Speedhunters
