NYIAS: the New Scion tC

By Jim Brennan

UDMan

There was some excitement in the Scion booth, as the new tC was introduced. It’s rather hard to remember when the tC was first introduced in the States, and it’s one of the more successful Scion products, so when coming out with a replacement, Toyota was a little conservative, with basically the same styling, an increase in horsepower, larger tires and brakes, and a new six speed automatic along with a six seed stick.

And what do you know, it’s now a hatchback, which will improve the utility of the coupe. So, tell us what you think.

Video will appear at Streetfire shortly.

I like the new scion tC. A lot of people are complaining about the Lexus references in the new design, um….Lexus is damn good looking car. Why not borrow a little bit from it, shoot, they’re all part of the same company anyway. I’m not thrilled about the 2011 scion tc price, but I really dig the overall look.

They added a new page to the site “announcing” The Machine (that’s what they’re calling it LOL) here, http://www.scion.com/takeonthemachine/

i really like the front, but the back is kind of ugly, needs to be lowered about an inch the stock stance is just a little too awkward.

I actually like it, The older design was pretty much bland and lackluster. i didn’t see what everyone else seen in it, this one looks a lot better actually, and the improvements make look on paper very impressive, at least it finally comes with a 6-speed manual instead of the 5-speed of old. Overall I think it looks impressive, but we won’t know how it feels to drive till it comes on

I think the design will eventually grow on us, interested in seeing this in Canada.

Here’s an update… its always been a hatchback. Maybe check out the 3K plus Scion tC pages on Cardomain.

I think the biggest let down is the fact that its not RWD. Scion pushes the tC as a drift car and have loyal customers expecting something along the lines of a RWD. They have missed the mark on market research and missed the mark on fulfilling their customer’s needs.

All in all about the car though its eh.

first time i saw it i was didnt like it at all. all day i was thinking the back was disgusting. now i look again and i love it. back looks like a 1 series beamer. one thing i don’t like is the unpainted a pillar. they couldn’t just paint it? does anyone know if this is the cement colour? i live in canada and we dont have scions here yet but come september i will be the first one in line to have mine.

Why didn’t they call it the new two door Tercel? I mean it looks more like a Tercel from the rear… I really don’t like that redesign.

…it’s always been a hatchback, even since the 2005 models. As a matter of fact, all Scions are hatchbacks.

Wow that thing looks horrible. If I was considering a tc in the future this body style definitely put me out of the market.
