Two Engines + One Seat = Brass Balls
By David Clarke
highspeedhijinks
The hot rod culture tends to shift directions depending on what decade it is. In the 70′s, rods weren’t too popular at all, in the 80′s they had their hair-metal revival with ZZ Top’s custom rides, and by the 90′s, builders like Boyd Coddington and Chip Foose were beginning to show that they could be performance jewels. This twin-engine beast I found on eBay harks back to the 60′s when Tommy “TV” Ivo was a household name. It’s a hot rod monster that takes the standard T-Bucket fare over the top, with two 350 Chevy small blocks mated with a Ford 9-inch rear end, mounted to a lengthened and Z’d Model T frame. There’s not much time left on the eBay auction, so check it out now!

Howard Hughes’s Boat-Tail Lincoln Shows Up On eBay
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
This ride has been all over the collectors’ market in the last year or so–most recently last June, it set many tweed caps spinning when it sold at the Leake Auction in Tulsa for a record-setting $1.08 million (read a nasty and indignant editorial scoffing over the Lincoln’s sale here). Aviator Howard Hughes originally purchased this Lincoln K Model V-12 open-top limo in 1936, then fitted it with its weird riveted-aluminum half-fuselage for obscure Howard Hughes reasons: the bulbous silver body has been variously described as (most obviously) an aerodynamic aid, a pod for stashing expensive camera equipment, and a test bed for experimental aircraft components (the rambling eBay seller’s description even links the car’s design to Hughes’s germophobia. Wha..?). In any case, it’s now up for auction at the bargain-basement starting price of $850,000–not bad for this economy, though it’s pretty likely the seller is going to be taking a loss on it. Check out the auction!
Roadside Find: A 1948 Hudson Double Front-Ender
By Brian Lohnes
BangShift.com
Our buddy Paul was really on his stuff the other day. He tipped us off on the V8 Miata web site that we ran earlier in the day and he also sent this photo of what appears to be a 1948 Hudson double front-ender. The car is located on the border of Bellingham and Franklin, Massachusetts. It has stood guard out in front of a salvage yard for decades.
According to Paul, the yard was chock full of vintage iron in various states of decomp and in recent years has been thinning the herd. He reports that there is still some cool old stuff in there to crawl through. If it is like the majority of New England junkyards, this Hudson may be the pick of the litter.
It would certainly be neat to see this car fall into the right hands and get a second life. Until then, it will continue to pull sentry duty in front of the wrecking yard.

Tales of Unintended Acceleration, Feat. One Chevrolet Nova
By Dan Strohl
Hemmings
I don’t know why I’ve yet to think of this, but I once suffered from a case of unintended acceleration – in my old 1971 Chevrolet Nova.
I bought the Nova in college with my dad, partly because it was such a good deal – $1,900 and not rusted out like every other pre-1990 vehicle in Ohio – partly as a fun car for the both of us. The body was straight, it had a mint interior, and its 250-cu.in. six-cylinder ran strong. It also had a three-on-the-tree, which I thought was rather unusual, but I’ve seen mention of three-on-the-tree transmissions lasting in the X-bodies through 1974. (The fuzzy dice were my attempt at being ironic; blackwalls with bowtie-stamped baby moons on 15-inch steelies didn’t require irony to be cool.)
When my daily driver started to become unreliable sometime during junior year, Dad let me use the Nova as a daily. After college, I then took it with me to Oregon, where I worked for a small-town newspaper. Oregon was the perfect place for that car: mild winters, no salt on the roads and a laid-back pace of life. So I drove it all over as I explored that new state on the weekends. Continue reading at Hemmings

Dodge Charger Donk
Tampa Sports Car Examiner
Riding on 30 inch rims and plush custom interior, this candy green Dodge Charger donk is a fine example of the modern retro donk movement. Outfitted with powerful engines, these vehicles might look slow but in reality they can be very fast when properly modified. Read more about the Dodge Charger donk at Tampa Sports Car Examiner.
Anyone Going To Goodguys Spring Nationals This Weekend?
By Jen Dunnaway
Editor
Goodguys shows are always awesome–I went to the Syracuse Nats once back when I was living in New York, and with its acres on acres of hot rods and pre-1973 customs I’ll always remember it as one of the most worthwhile car shows I’ve been to. That’s why I wish I could be in Scottsdale, Arizona as Goodguys kicks off its 2010 show season. Anyone going?

Caption Contest: This Week’s Winner!
By John Coyle
Deputy Editor
OK, straight up, our new CarDomain swag will be here early next week, and as soon as it arrives I will drop what I’m doing and walk my ass over to the post office and send it out. To all the winners, I’m really sorry it’s taken so long to get you your stuff. It’s my fault, and if I could blame it on anyone else, I would. But nobody will be happier than I am when you get your packages. Anyway, this week’s winner is yoyoman1977, who came up with; Dude, watch the expression on her face when i put the gas nozzle in! It’s a little off-color, but still way funny. For everyone keeping score, I pick the winners and hate can be directed at me. Tune in tomorrow for the next installment of our I’m With CoCo inspired Caption Contest!
